Hello,
So I'm still choosing between the Pa4x and Pa1000. I am buying this keyboard for composing purposes and will not be gigging with it. But I like the idea of using the styles for artistic inspiration as I am still relatively new to this.

My question is this: Let's say I am using styles to record a song using Song Record (Multi Track Sequencer). From what I am reading in the manual I can do basic punch-ins and what-not of each recorded track if I wanted to change, say the bass line of the style I recorded. Is that correct? So after recording the song using a style I have the ability to change any part of the recorded style's track that I want? Then save that as a song. Would I be able to move all of the tracks into a DAW and then use the PA as the sound source to record new takes of various tracks using different sounds?

I guess I'm just trying to determine how much different the recording process is from say using a Kronos to do traditional track by track recording.

I hope this makes sense.
Thanks for any feedback!
Doug

Hey Doug

Welcome to the forums.

I recently used my PA4X for just that and for a song to be part of a movie.

We used a suitable STYLE as the base (not bass!!) of the song.
Established the structure (verses, choruses, bridge etc)
Recorded it just using that STYLE (Backing Sequence" mode)

After that, I tweaked just about everything like overwriting the drum track, adding and changing bass lines and modifying the sounds.

Turned out great and in the end, not much like the original STYLE but that STYLE gave us the backbone to work with - save hours of track-by-track planning & recording.

You can record "Backing Sequence" mode to put down that original backbone structure of the song - then do al the tweaking.

Hope this helps

PA4X rocks!!!!

Pete,

Thank you for the reply. That is great news. So backing sequence mode is the answer and not multi-track sequence. The work-flow you described is exactly what I was looking for.

Will probably go for the PA1000 as it is my first foray into this niche. But from what I've read in the manuals of both arrangers, they appear to be almost identical in this particular aspect of functionality.

Thanks again
Doug

Cool

Backing sequence mode is where to start (IMHO) - after that you can get into the individual tracks (multi-track sequencer mode) and edit to your heart's content

Cheers & have fun
