No, it's not what you're thinking. I'm talking about the joystick on my PA4X!
Anyway, it's not that hard if I can do it.
You have to remove the end caps, six screws each, then take out all the SMALL screws on the bottom, and the 3 screws on the top part of the front.
You can then start lifting the top back, but there are two more screws, one on each side of the back that are now revealed and they have to come out.
Then remove the old joystick, unplug the connections, replace everything and you're done. It took about 30 minutes.
Easy once you know how!
I saved myself $100 and a 150 mile trip to Dallas!

Yes, exactly the same part. I broke the one on my 3X a couple of years ago and it cost $100 plus the part and the gasoline and the time to take it there. Had to pay a rush fee so they would replaced it the same day. They wouldn't even do that this time, so I ordered the part and did it myself.

Yes "Red House". Smile
Seriously, you must be very careful transporting the 3x and 4x because that joystick protrudes above the body of the keyboard and if you bump it, it can break.
I now use a piece of foam rubber with a hole cut it in for the joystick, and place it on top of the keyboard when I put it in the bag.
