You know, there's something to that idea.
Form a nonprofit dedicated to providing at-cost access to musical equipment (software, hardware, whatever) to all comers. Maintain a fund to buy up products from other manufacturers.
It wouldn't make the bottom drop out of the market, but it would keep large manufacturers on their toes. |

Meanwhile there is a trial version of Cubase 9.5 online, if anyone wants to test DAW alternatives. _________________ Kronos 73 - Moog Voyager RME - Moog LP TE - Behringer Model D - Prophet 6 - Roland Jupiter Xm - Rhodes Stage 73 Mk I - Elektron Analog Rytm MkII - Roland TR-6s - Cubase 12 Pro + Groove Agent 5 |

I downloaded and installed a demo for Cubase 8.5, and it required that I had a USB e-Licenser. I saw it as a sign to just hold on with Sonar until I can't anymore. I was a little burned up about that. I'd definitely try it if there was no USB e-licenser necessary, but I am not paying $32 to demo a product. _________________ Korg Kronos-61, 01/Wfd, SONAR Pro |

I still use the DOS version of cakewalk today for MIDI file editing.
So to me it will never die. I just know it so well. _________________ PA5X-76, Nautilus-73, Kronos-73, M3-73, Radias-R, Triton Extreme 61, CX-3, N1R, Micro-X, Kontrol49, MicroStation, T3 workstation, Mini-Korg 700s, RK100s, MS-20i controller |

It would be the best thing in the world if Microsoft picked up Cakewalk as Apple did with Logic. wouldn’t hurt them |

The Dongle is to stop people from pirating their software. Keeps the price down and the e licenser is part of the support structure in case of a crash all your purchases are always available to download again. Great company Hi end _________________ KRONOS 2 88, Roland A800,

I don't think Cakewalk used an eliscenser...I've got about 3 versions of Cakewalk and they have a sticker on the DVD case you write your codes down on when you registered it....All my other software uses ilok though...moon _________________ Keyboards - Korg Kronos X, Kawai K5000W,M-Audio Venom, Ensoniq TS-12,Kawai K4

No, Cakewalk doesn't use any of that. In fact, I don't think I've paid full price for it since 1994, the upgrade price was always applicable. I don't have anything that uses ilok _________________ Korg Kronos-61, 01/Wfd, SONAR Pro |
