okay, so i chucked the obligatory 808 kit at it, and then
i fired over some ambient noises, stuff like that, - and
that was fun. i love Voysyr, drag'n'drop samples, saving
kits like that, sending over the samples via audio, the
fact that it's tiny and runs on batteries. that's all great.
but now, i'm thinking, so what next?
the sequencer really isn't much use with 16 steps, and
song memory doesn't really make up for that;
i'm comparing it to the electribe ES-1 i have, which shares
same sample rate, same amount of memory, and number
of samples - but which can do up to 64 steps, has 2x 64
pattern memories plus a proper song mode, more FX to
choose from (and switch between patterns ), and CAN
SAMPLE - key drawback is maybe the old SmartMedia
cards.
but at least you can trigger all of its samples on 1 midi channel
(i think? never tried...)
so what i'm thinking would make the Volca Sample a LOT
better, and a lot more fulfilling of its 'promise', would be a
new firmware, allowing all samples to be triggered on a
single midi channel, and a mode where they could be played
chromatically - so you don't have to buy the expensive retrokits
cable - i'm just not going to invest in that, this is something that
the vSample should already do. and if it can be done in software
on a cable, it must be possible via software injected into the box.
what do you think? |
