I am currently exploring the same challenge. I have successfully recorded styles on separate MIDI tracks into Reaper but have had limited success using Cubase 9.5 Pro. Although I do have the Pa4x XML file for Cubase if you need that. I'm finding one of the most challenging issues was sending the Program Change commands to the Pa4x. It can be tricky just because of the way the Pa4x routes it's tracks to MIDI channels (Upper, Lower, Acc1 etc.) I created a custom MIDI preset to make things easier. This allowed me to use the structure that made the most sense to me. (Caveat - this is just for recording into a DAW. Style creation has explicit MIDI Channel requirements) In reaper you merely place the CC's in the piano roll wherever you want a program change on each channel. Works every time! In Cubase I have not had much success getting the actual Program Change commands to work.

As for creating styles I think at this point Reaper would be the easiest as it was very easy to get it "talking" to the Pa4x. (Altho oddly enough the OM shows an example from Cubase). And of course you would then just create your style in your DAW on a per channel basis; ensuring you follow the correct midi channel assignments, insert markers and then import into your Pa4x (Pg 295 in OM).

If you can figure out how to properly map the midi channels in Cubase please let me know. But I have had good success within Reaper and it's only $60 for a personal license!

Good luck!
Doug

Edit - There are some good tutorials from some of the members here on how to import Midi file to Style within the Pa4x, but I have not found any tutorials specifically on how to record your style within a DAW. Maybe someone else can help on that one. Smile
