Just bought a PA4X and love the board. However, the board arrives with the board..no literature etc. I produce a large number of midi files via cakewalk and have loaded them onto a jump drive. The drive recognizes the folder but midi files by name are blank and not loadable. Unlike my Tyros 5 which just show up I must be missing some simple fact (I'm hoping it is simple!!). Any one else have this problem as a noob and can help me out?
Thanks,
Rick |

Rick
Make sure you save your files as Standard Midi File which is native to Pa4x

After pressing media button you can only see files that match the situation tab you are in. So if in Load tab you only see .Set files, if navigating via Song Play title you will see .Mid files, if in Copy tab you will see All files.
Midi files are played via song title in the player and not via load (at least that's the way it works on my 3x). _________________ Free SoundFonts: https://sites.google.com/site/soundfonts4u/

Well, I finally figured part of this issue out! In order to play Midi files internally in the PA4X you need to load midi files into the sequencer portion of the board. The midi files appear not to play in the GM of GM2 voicing parameters but via specific voices assignable in the sequencer page. I'll try to run a midi file via Cakewalk externally and see if that is where GM voicing is initiated! |

MIDI files should play fine in SONG PLAY mode - you shouldn't have to load them into its sequencer.
However if the content of your MIDI files do not use GM bank sound locations (or is not SMF as mentioned by JP above) then you may get some strange results.
Cheers

I'll keep trying! The sequencer is not at all the place to load midi files. I'll try the Song mode again and see if the files show up or not. Could this issue be with OS 2.0? I'll load 2.1 at a later date. |

Again, in the song play mode the folders with the midi files show up but when the folder is open there are no midi files visible????? BTW, when playing midi files via my PC the PA4X instantly responds. Very frustrating!! |

Rick - just in case you missed what I said above. You don't play midi files by loading them via media. Once your flash drive is plugged in don't touch any buttons - in Song Play Mode just touch the Player 1 song title that probably reads "no song" at the moment. Now you will be able to navigate to your file via HD or USB. _________________ Free SoundFonts: https://sites.google.com/site/soundfonts4u/
