I read on another post that you can change the sounds in a style and store as a songbook entry. Could someone write a tutorial on how to do this ?

Sometimes something seems to be easier to understand as to describe it in a tutorial.

If a Songbook-Entry is written, this will be done with current style settings of the current Style. Style settings - that means:
Acc-Sounds, Acc-Volume, DrumKit-Mappings, Play/Mute-Status, Key-Range, Wrap-Around, also assigned and mixed Pads.

Like a Keyboard-Set for Realtime-Tracks, for Background-Tracks Style Setting is nothing else than the Styles Sounds configuration, written into User- and Direct-Styles or into Sb-Entries (sometimes into Factory-Styles if factory-unprotected).

Style settings are in contrast to the Style (to the StyleSequence) only playback parameters, changed on-the-fly and not necessary to be changed with the style editor.

How to change and write StyleSettings almost is described in Manuals (Pa1000 Page 205 -218 / Pa4x Page 207 - 222 ..) and is the same since Pa-Serie uses Style-Settings / Style-Performances.

This has nothing to do with the songbook; in previous Pa-Series these style settings were saved separately with a songbook-command (Write Current Resource).

Now - as mentioned above - songbook-entry will be written automatical with the current style setting!

That is, because if writing a Style also Styles Settings automatically are saved - so do not forget to mark checkbox "Write Style/Song" in Songbook-Edit/Write. This will update play-parameters for style/song of the current sb-entry.

So I take it the only really way is using the style record method rather than using the song book ?

I simply change the instruments in the style and then press and hold the songbook button to save the edited song to the songbook.

Works like a charm. Why do you need a tutorial?

that's indeed how i do it all the time. I change the sounds of a factory style and then modify each sound to my liking, change FX for all the sounds and modify the audio levels of each track to current standards and save that modified style as a songbook entry. It can completely change the feeling of a style if you do it that way.

It's actually quite easy to do:
- select a style you want to modify
- press a chord so that you can hear the style play
- now change the sounds of the style to sounds that you want to use by pressing the trk select button (it's below your touchscreen next to the record button)
- now you see all the instruments of the style, press the first drum icon and change the drumkit to one that you like
- next touch the bass icon and select a bass sound you want to use, you can repeat this for every instrument for the style
- then press the trk select button again, now press the UPPER 1 sound, select a sound that you want to use for your own keyboard set, be aware that the effects of that sound will be copied and going to be in use for every upper sound
- repeat this process for the upper 2, 3 and lower sound
- now you have setup a style with your own sounds, now comes the next part of modifying the sounds

Modifying the sounds:
- first press the trk select button again and mute the variation sounds that you don't want to use. Most styles are very busy and by muting one or two variations it will sounds much more easier on the ear.
- then press the trk select button again
- now press the MENU button
- you will see all kind of buttons that lead you to modification possibilities of your audio levels, fx levels and even basic sound editing and drum editing.
- press the mixer tuning button on the touch screen
- now you can modify the sound levels, EQ, FX Send levels, etc of the upper and lower sounds
- press the trk select button again
- now you can modify the sound levels, EQ, FX Send Levels, etc of the style sounds
- press the menu button again
- select the track controls button on your touch screen
- you see three tabs to modify your sounds
- the second tab Drum edit gives you the possibility to modify each sound of the drumkit
- the third tab sound edit gives you the possibility to modify the basic parameters of the selected sound, for instance the ADSR or the Cutoff and resonance of a sound.
- by switching between the style sounds and Keyboard set sounds through the trk select button you can modify each sound of the style and keyboard sound to your liking

you can modify a lot more, but these are the basics that aren't that hard once you know where to find it.

Now you have to save it to the songbook:
- press the songbook button for two seconds
- a screen will popup where you can give your modified style a new name and you can save it to the songbook. It will remember all your settings and new choices and the original style will be intact as it was original but your songbook style will be the one how you modified it.

A sound example of a modified style where i did the steps above can be seen here:

Maybe this method will help revoicing styles that I've converted from Genos. Before I had been using style record to revoice the style parts and writing the style.
