Hello..!

I had the same issue and I managed to find the proper way.

1. Download a set of styles from this link (tip, download a lesser no of style set would be better)
https://www.korg.com/us/features/arrangers/bonusware/#

2. Extract the PA file and copy it to a flash drive.

3. Connect flash drive to Pa1000 and paste that file to the SD card.

4. Go to the Global > Mode Preferences > Media page.

5. Touch the Direct Folder > Browse button to open the file selector (When you select normal folders in the SD card "Select" option will not work. It will work once you select the file with PA format only)

6. Press the pasted file from the flash drive and touch "Select" option.

7. Now the link has been made. Go to styles and check. (Direct access will work now)

Remebmber you can give only one linking forder for all types (styles, voices, set lists, etc..)

Do not follow this procedure.

Backup your system including all Styles, User settings etc. before doing any installations.

Do this Backup to its own SD card.

I installed Bonusware and it wiped my User settings on the Korg drive and it wiped the files that were backed up on the same SD card

Yes! All this is stupid! Not comfortable! I understand if they would have done that. I specified the folder and all the styles that are there, automatically loaded. But no, only 1 CET. With sounds, it is not particularly comfortable! Another strange feature!

It is a good feature for using additional KeyboardSets, Styles, Pads, VoicePresets and GuitarPresets, SongBookEntries and SetLists, memorized on and accessed from external storage devices, without first having to load them!

If you understand why they have done that, I wonder why you think it is stupid to allocate files for Direct Set usage with SD-cards.

It sometimes certainly it is not comfortable, but direct folders primary are not meant to comfortable deal with user styles and user samples of allocated SDs. Internal memory and internal drives of Pa-Keyboards are slightly more rigidly structured than data in a computer. It is not surprising that a Pa-keyboard cannot read a style and its user samples from an USB stick which is not connected to the system and possibly has an unknown file format (maybe NTFS).

Pa1000 do not have troubles with storage devices (HD, SD, USB-F, USB-F) - it can save most of the data contained in memory to the internal drive, an internally installed microSD card, or to external devices (like hard drives or USB memory sticks) connected to the USB HOST ports. Also load, copy, merge, save, erase, delete of folders and data causes no troubles.

But it is not possible to play styles from SD card without to activate Direct Set features. Pa-keyboards only work with data that are resident in its internal memory. Data from SD card only can be considered as an extension of the internal memory, if it is allocated. So it is necessary to select a DirectSet folder or to use Media and Load, to get the required data into internal memory.
*
As an Extension of the internal memory disk files of Direct Set does not contain the full Media Structure. Without first having to load them, additional KeyboardSets, Styles, Pads, VoicePresets and GuitarPresets, SongBookEntries and SetLists of DirectSets are accessed directly from a storage device. User-Sounds (PCM, Multismp, PCGs) can not be accessed directly - must therefore be resident in the internal memory if they are to be used by resources of the DirectSets.

Direct SET function is ideal only for Styles & KBD SETs that are assigned with factory resources , unlike custom PCM Direct SETs will make your arrangement very complex , and IMO one Direct SET with custom PCM is already too much ! ..
