Hey all, I have a Kronos X and I'm getting the dreaded "System Startup Failed" error. Which happens often and when it doesn't happen the system startup up fine with the warning message that the clock battery voltage is low. And the system works 100% perfect until 10 or 15 minutes when it just shuts down with an error message that something went wrong.

First thing I did is change that clock battery with a brand new one, which did not solve the problem and the voltage warning still pops up.

I tried re-seating the RAM and checking the drive cable which is not loose or anything. That didn't solve anything either.

So now I want to try to just buy completely new RAM. Does anyone know the exact RAM type to buy?

I checked this site http://i.korg.com/uploads/support/usa_kronos_op_guide_e5.pdf and it says:

240‐Pin PC2‐6400 CL‐5 (or CL‐6) DDR2‐800 non‐ECC Unbuffered DIMM 1GB

However, looking at the RAM, it's not 240 pin. So that will not fit. So I'm not sure if the info is wrong or I'm just reading it wrong.

Has anyone changed the RAM in their Kronos X? If so what did you use?

Or does anyone have other advice before I go pay a service center to tell me I probably need a new motherboard?

hard to accept your ram is getting 'worn '.

Inconsistent power is a possible. Check all your connections.

If you move your board around- its possible that the Mobo is flexing and the fasteners are getting loose. After all, the Mobo is upside down all the time.

So check the fasteners for tightness

Thanks, good point about the MB being upside down. I'll try checking all the connections. Also one thing I failed to mention as it was just shipped to me about 3 weeks ago. It worked perfectly fine for 3 weeks (but still did have the voltage warning) and just started doing the startup failures a couple days ago.

It was shipped in a gator hard case at least.

yeah I guess I leave out all kinds of useful info. The board is used, great deal (1600 with the hard case). Worked great the first couple weeks though, so I'm guessing maybe something minor but if I have to put a couple hundred bucks into it then it won't be so bad I guess.

Edit: I have a 73 key as well which I bought new and no issues so far, same type Kronos X. I just found a good deal on an 88 key and wanted one to keep at home since I gig with my 73.

Private party sale ?

If so, you may have bought someone else's headache.

Not such a good deal IMO
