Would RAM or SATA cable cause power to shut down?

Nope , Ram or any media cable issues will lead to screen error messages not to complete shutdown !
You probably face internal PSU malfunction of Chinese Enhance ENO-1612 SMPS that has an average low life duration and its close to stop working permanently !
You need to visit official Korg repair center ...
Experts that can DIY http://www.enhanceusa.com/webe/html/products/show.aspx?num=90&kind=55&page=1

Thanks Antony - I took your (& others) advice & delivered the K to a service center yesterday. I'll post again when I get the verdict.

Antony (& anyone else that wants to chime in)
My Kronos is still in repair shop .. he thinks it's the power supply, but
also said this in a text to me -
"the mother board could cause a voltage short and pull down the power supply & turn it off".

Any thoughts ??

my question is why would the mother board 'act' in such a way ?

Is it the result of a mother board going defective ?

Or is the root cause something external to the K ?

My guess is it would be defective.

There was nothing hooked up external to the K when this behavior started.

I'm just curious if you happened to open the K yourself to see if any cables or such appeared loose, before sending it to the shop?

Of course, the technician says he thinks it's the power supply, or the mother board could cause a short, but did he mention being able to duplicate your problem of it shutting down?

No, I didn't open it myself. I was tempted but decided to give it to him.

He has duplicated the problem - when you switch it on, a few seconds later it quits - power cuts off. Won't make it through the boot-up.

OK - it's official - it was the power supply.
I just got the K back yesterday after 6 weeks.

Antony, & others who suggested PS, you were right on the money.
