Hi Guys, new day, new problem.

I have put a second drive into my Kronos. I have several EXs to load in. I follow the steps of loading the EX's from an external drive into this new drive. The first EX I try registers on the new drive, however when I get to the final step of loading the PCG and set the KSC Allocation to apend and so on, it shows insufficient memory. While the new disk is the one selected it seems to be reading the memory of the original disk. Not sure how to proceed? Thanks for any help offered.

Is your shiny new 2nd SSD Korg formatted ?

Assuming there is zero data on it

it appears you found an angled SATA cable

Hi Greg

The drive was formatted on the Korg. Yes the drive is empty except for the one EXs on it. This EXs was already on the original internal drive but I couldn't complete the loading into the keyboard through lack of memory space. I reloaded it from the external drive and clicked 'replace' when prompted.

Yes the SATA cable has only one right angled end but the straight end is alot smaller/shorter than the one we initially tried.

1)tell is about this. " external drive"

2) Which EXs' are you trying to load/read ? There might be a flaw in your down load.

3) If it where me, I would make 100% sure you copied/installed the Exs to your 2nd drive which is new, has lots of storage. Assuming the EXs is a solid Korg 3rd party product, your load process ' should not ' jump around
to a remote drive or any other SSD, such as the factory drive.

4) Another thought is to carefully review your SATA cabling steps on your 2nd SSD. If not cabled properly to the MoBo, that could result in SSD confusion.

all I can do is guess the issue.

It doesn’t sound like a problem with the drive... the Kronos apparently boots fine, and from the OP he was able to load one Ex from the second drive already.

I have a few thoughts and suggestions, but I need to get some coffee and fire up my Kronos first. I’ll be back.

I'll join GregC with another guess... Wink

It may be related to the KSC loading which affects the memory usage etc.

Perhaps de-selecting some could facilitate the new one.

The following link shows one of many videos that show a basic library installation.

It probaly won't answer your particular problem, but it serves as a starting point.
There are others that may demonstrate better proceedures.(a google search will help).

Best Wishes.

I think your problem is RAM insufficient memory, not the disk space. Will need to manage the RAM size and priorities the important EXs to load.

That’s what I was thinking Dan. Ce faci... my wife is from Deta, by the way Smile

Mark - here are some steps which may help isolate the issue:

1. Go into Disk mode
2. Select your secondary drive (bottom left of the page)
3. Tap the Media Info tab (bottom right)

Verify the Total Size and Free Size values.

1. Go into Global mode
2. Tap the KSC Auto-Load tab

Review the data at the top of this page - it will show used and free memory values.

Unselect all of the KSC file check boxes, then tap the Do Auto-Load Now button. Once it finishes reloading, review the used/free memory values again and let us know what you found with each of these steps.

That would be along similar lines of thought I also have.
The previous KSC data could then be reinstated as required, within memory limits,of course.

Thanks for your help, really appreciate it. Ok by following your steps I have a lot of memory available now but how will that help me when I load back all of these KSC files I'll be back to where I was. If it is a ram issue can this be upgraded? I am sure there are many kronos users with far more stuff loaded on than me. Just rambling here, but can I load the new stuff on while having the KSC files unselected and then I will have to choose which ones I may need each time I turn the keyboard on, that would be a real pain to swap and change depending on the sound you need. Thanks again.

Thanks for your thoughts Greg. I'm sure it's not the cable, I took it to the Korg specialists to install it. The external drive has loaded all the other EXs I have loaded, it's ok. The EXs is also fine. Not sure where to go now.

Is this an original Kronos (K1)? If so, you can add more RAM which makes more available for samples. If it is a K2, the RAM is maxed out.

One thing you should scrutinize closely - see how many of the KSC files listed for auto-load are <filename>.KSC, and look to see if there are <filename>_UserBank.KSC files present in the filesystem instead. You should usually opt to load the UserBank samples, as they run directly from disk instead of consuming RAM to load.

Once you've optimized this, then if you still have issues you will need to selectively load specific KSC files with prejudice as needed.

Unfortunately it is one of the limiting factors of the Kronos....we can't load all the KSC of choice at once.
They need to be selective within memory capacity.

Apparently there is a means to have ( and save) several versions of KSC groups for different occasions, but, luckily,I've not got the need to do this,so I'm not familiar with the process.
However,KSC selection is not a long process and probably a routine could be adopted to suit.

Best Wishes.

Well, for me anyway on my K2, I have somewhere on the order of 20 or more KSC files which are auto-loaded, and have plenty of available RAM (over 33% available after startup). I use the UserBank versions almost exclusively.

I'm not sure how my usage stacks up with everyone else's, and I expect Greg might do much more than I, but for my purposes I'm able to load everything I need at this time.
