Well, I tried the news forum but no answers so far, I have a a question about the products in title, since I will get one of them, but I can not figure it out of teh specs, meaning:
Since the M50 has more pcm rom than M3, how can it has worse sounds? And since Ps60 has more pcm for fewer sounds, and a newer engine, the same as the kross, the same question applies. I am not even putting the Triton Extreme and Studio, that have even less pcm rom BUT are acclaimed even above M3 in terms of quality. Please, someone clarifies this to me!
I do not need the workstation functions, so my focus is better sounds and good layer capabilities, like x50 or m50, is there a SYNTH above ps60?[/b] |

M3 and M50 have the very same PCM material, to the point that they are 100% compatible. If you are after the best sound, choose one of them. Be mindful that M50 has far worse keys than M3 and no sampling function.
Kross has samples of lower quality compared to the above mentioned.
For PS60 I hope someone replies. _________________ The end is near |

The M3 and M50 have the same initial 256 Mb of ROM. The M50 does not have the eXpanded ROM that came for the M3 after it was released. It has the original ROM that came with the M3. It also lacks Karma, the extended polyphony of the M3 (M50- 80 notes of polyphony, the M3 - 120 notes of polyphony). The M50 also lacks the better keybed of the M3, as well as the sliders and other things. The M50 also lacks any sampling capabilities, where the M3 initially had 64 Mb of RAM for this. There was also an expansion board for the M3 that added an additional 256 Mb of sampling RAM, giving a total potential of 320 Mb of sampling RAM.
The piano samples on the Kross sound better than the original samples on the M3/M50. The M50 has a 3-way piano, and the eXpanded M3 has the 4-way piano. The Kross has a 4-way piano as well, and it is brighter and more defined. I know this because I have both an M50 AND a number of Kross 1 synths in my studio.
The PS60 has the same ROM (EDS-i) that the Microstation has. For whatever reason, the pianos do sound a bit better on the PS60 than on the Microstation.
The OP has posted in many different threads about these things, so I imagine that they have their answer(s) by now
Grace,
