Hi Ross,

You can add up to 4 GB of RAM on a Kronos, so that would increase the available memory. My K2 came stock with just one 4 GB RAM stick inserted. I suggest you don't install it right away though - wait until your unit is running again first. Wink

That's good news KK, so it's possible to mix values?.... meaning you don't have to have 'matched value pairs'? I've replaced Apple computer RAM in the past, which have some matching issues.
Thanks again
Ross

Hi Ross,

It's not guaranteed different RAM modules will work together on a given motherboard, but it's possible to successfully mix RAM sticks of different values, specs, etc. Again, only try it once your Kronos is back to work, to avoid adding another variable to your equation. Wink

Hi KK
Thanks agin for all your help.
I'm not trained as a technician, but always willing to give it a go.......
I got down to work this morning and did a check on the voltages as you explained, and other than one or two brief tiny flickers of .001 on the 20 volt scale, there's nothing reading from any of the pins on that loom. I pulled out the loom to get direct contact with the pins on the P/S board too, just in case my probe was not 'pointy' enough, but the same results.
I also checked the P/S is receiving 230 volts AC.
So, with these findings, it looks like the P/S has failed.....

Do you know if these P/Ss are available?

Hello Ross,

If you are sure the meter was set on the VDC scale (not VAC), then it would confirm the PS is defective. Sorry about that. About where to find a replacement one, I have no idea but I suppose I would first contact Korg service by email to see what they say (try support@korgusa.com even if you are in the UK, they usually reply rather quickly, even though right now it's Holidays time. You can of course as well try a local Korg service center).

The model is ENO-1612 made by Enhance USA. Maybe you could contact them as well.

Hi KK
Yes I made sure it was VDC and not VAC, but you're right to ask!!! So, am I right in assuming that it's the 'primary' circuit of the P/S that is likely faulty, if all the various outputs are showing nothing?

Thanks so much for the possible P/S supplier links..... you have been so much help.
Have a wonderful Christmas.

Ross

FYI Update
I received a new P/S today and swapped over. The keyboard sprung to life with no problems....... Fingers crossed that's solved it.
However, although the fan is operating, there's not much air flow. I'd love to fit an additional fan, and drill some ventilation holes at either end of the keyboard base.

Thanks again for the help.

This SMPS PSU do not work if disconnected from mobo and just plug 100-300V input , as any motherboard PSU since it has an enable
pin that must be grounded , therefore you will measure zero output voltages this way !

I had written at that time in earlier post :
In order to test Enhance ENO-1612 (outside Kronos) , plug in 90-300 Volts AC (or DC) input , ground green cable (PS-on)
and then check all voltage outputs as described in bellow technical sheet , page 2.

Hi Antony

Thanks for your input re my dead Kronus.
I did acquire a new P/S which solved the issue, but I read your post with interest about the reading output values 'unplugged'. I checked both plugged and unplugged, so all good....... I'd be interested in finding out if there's a specialist fuse on the P/S board, and if it can be fixed....... that would save nearly £200.........

Thanks again, and have a good one.

Hi Ross,

Wow that was quick to receive a new PS. Did you order it locally, from Korg, from the Enhance manufacturer ?

Hi KK

I ordered it from Korg UK, and it came in two days...... very quick.
I can't complain, as I've used it for about 8 years and not had any issues. Although I reckon temperature was probably to blame for the failure.
That said, I did see a post regarding a possible alternative for a P/S from a different source for less than half the price.... but it's not confirmed as a working solution.
Ah well......

Have you looked into improved cooling for yours? The small fan in this Kronus 88 must be very ineffective as there's no vents in the casing. I really have to look into this.

Hi Ross,

That's great that Korg UK could send you a PS that fast so you can enjoy your Kronos during the Holidays. Dancing

About the fan, I sometimes check for fun the temperature in Global Mode and never saw anything even to start worrying about. But I've got a K2 so maybe they improved the fan since earlier models. In your case, maybe it was just normal wear.

Hi KK
Yes, I'm delighted, after holding my breath after I switched the keyboard on for the first time......... cos there is a pause, before we see life on the screen......
Well, hopefully, just wear and tear. I read that the temperature sensor reads from the SSD..... which is surprising. I would have thought the MB was a more appropriate place to monitor the temperatures....... and since most computers have fans, again that concurs...... but what do I know?
