Hello All. I have a first generation Kronos and purchased the new Kronos sound pack. This is my first expansion, and I haven't uploaded any other programs.
I was able to install the EXs18 just fine. The same started to happen for the EXs17, until I got to the KSC file and noted that it was over 200M and I have 81M.
So the first generation Kronos cannot handle the new Kronos sound pack, memory-wise? I thought maybe I had too many sequences, but I don't, and even if I did they apparently don't take up that much memory.
How do you all recommend clearing up a good chunk of memory to finish this installation? Is this even possible? Thanks so much for your help! |

Hi Greg. I'm using v3.1.3 and the Global tab says I have 2.00GB of RAM installed. |

you need 4 GB of RAM
OS will always occupy 1 GB RAM.
4 GB will give you 3 GB to work with _________________ Kronos 88. MODX8

Thanks for the reply, Greg. I'm glad to hear there's a solution. It does prompt a couple questions:
1. Is there a specified RAM Kronos recommends?
2. Is this something I can do myself? Or does a tech need to do it?
Thanks again.

Its a non complex DIY, with some patience for the 45 minute task.
The 4 GB RAM has been available and discussed for 9 years on this forum. You should be able to Google the forum to discover the RAM type/size etc.
You can also try to 'pair' your current 2 GB RAM and buy the twin. _________________ Kronos 88. MODX8

Installing additional RAM is certainly recommended, but unloading unneeded libraries can help free memory as well.
I created a subset of PRELOAD.PCG by unloading the Rock and Jazz drums (EXs8 & 9), then saved it as PRELOAD_NoDrums.PCG.
Also, since I don't care for the Japanese grand (EXs 7), I unloaded it as well.
Perhaps a compromise, but doing that can allow space for the new Kronos sound pack EXs17 and EXs18 to be install simultaneously with many other preload sounds on only 2 GB of memory. |

Thank you, all, for the suggestions. I researched an earlier thread and found a Crucial 4GB RAM product on Amazon that someone had recommended, and I pulled the trigger. It's supposed to arrive on Wednesday, so we'll see. |
