I'm looking for a tuto that explain how to sound several sample in hd1 mode.
I don't understand
when I set more than one sample in the OSC/Pitch I only can hear the first one and I don"t understand how to set different samples in single mode HD1 and hear several samples at the same time.
Does someone could give me a link or help me please ? |

All is explained in Operation Manual, p.51 :"Editing HD-1 Programs".
You can download it on Korg website. |

I see what you mean.
THe HD-1 engine consists on 8 multisamples which can be set along the velocity range from 0 to 127.
Basicaly, they are not meant to be played all at once. They can be crossfaded two by two and the crossfade duration can be set.
But you can set 3 parameters in order to play up to two multisamples at the same time, not more.
These 3 parameters are : Bottom Velocity, Xfade range and Curve.
Here is an example :
MS1 : 00000 Acoustic Pïano 1
Bottom velocity : 001 ; Xfade Range : 127 ; Curve : Layer
MS2 : 00206 Voice Female
Bottom velocity : 001 ; Xfade Range : 127 ; Curve : Linear
With these settings you will hear the two multisamplesn Thanks to the "Layer" setting.
There is a very good and easy way to learn Kronos : observing how some sounds are designed.
So, look for Programs which use more than one multisample.
Ex : USER-C 017 L.A.E.Piano. It uses two OSC. The second one uses two multisamples playing at once. |

thank you very much for your answer...
it's clear now for me
I was trying the possibilities of the kronos and I thought I could superpose 8 sounds on HD1 but it seams to be impossible.
I understand I can work the 8 sounds with the velocity but I think nobody use that.
Thank you again. |

2 Oscillators, using 2 layers, using stereo samples = 8 simultaneous sounds. But realistically, you would create that kind of sound set in a combi.

Many Kronos drumkits use 8 cross-fade or cross-switch zones for bass, snare, high hat, cymbal, tom, etc, because they sound different being played from soft (pp) to medium (mf) to hard (ff). A number of programs use up to 8 zones. Here's one I made:

Indeed, it's quite difficult to use the requiered 8 levels velocity precision by playing on the keyboard.
But it's possible by using the sequencer or an external DAW, because you can set the exact velocity range for each Multisample.
However, you can consider the HD-1 engine as a really powerful synth. It presents huge possibilities. Do not forget that each Multisample can be a Wavesequence ! |

Thank you very much for this information! I have been trying in vain to get more than two layers to sound – I have been working on the impossible for quite a long time ! _________________ Kurzweil K2700, Korg Nautilus 61, Yamaha MODX6

Just in case this isn’t a terminology issue, you’re aware that you can combine up to 16 Program sounds (any of the 9 engines, including HD1) in a Combination, correct? For instance, you can have 8 different Programs using the HD1 engine and combine them into one Combination so that they all trigger and play simultaneously.
You are specifically asking to accomplish the task discussed above in this thread?
The Kronos can accommodate nearly anything that it’s owner can dream, so I had to ask in case it is a more simple ask than it appears. |
