Hi, Korgians!

I bought a used Kronos X 88 which is about 5-6 years old. Was being used in a studio.

Some keys are rattling and kinda shuffling internal rulers when playing not ideally vertical.

Is this normal? Should I do smth or it will work with this rattling without any harm to keys?

Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

Yes it's normal after some years of use. Mine does the same and I have no problem practicing several hours a day.

Noisy keys do get to me, but from my experience it is usually an easy fix. My K2-88 had a noisy A0 key. Just a matter of pulling the keybed out, unslotting the key, and repositioning it back into position with the spring tab correctly seated and all was good.

In my experience of keyboard repair I find most keys will develop noise after some years of use. In extreme cases it's wear but usually its just lubrication. Keyboards have a good amount of lubrication in "key" areas. Very Happy

As you play, the lubrication is displaced by being pushed away from rubbing surfaces.

I re-lube keys all the time. I have lube from Yamaha that works best. I haven't been able to locate a retail version of this so I keep it in stock from Yamaha.

Besides noise, lack of lube can cause sticking or making the key harder to press compared to others. This clearly happens with the keys that are played the most. Keys on the ends of a keyboard are usually good for comparison.
