I need help from the group.
I noticed a problem a few days ago....
I have had my M50 a number of years.
Besides having to replace some capacitors (the imfamous issue), it seems to have been working fine..
Until recently.
Forgive my terminology. I do not know the proper terms for what i am trying to explain...
I noticed some subtle sounds missing from a favorite combi I play.
With the combi open / loaded I went to the bottom of the display screen and hit prog 9-16 ( "instrument 10 is not working among others)
I hit SOLO for instrument 10.
I hit the keys,.
I hear NOTHING.
I load another combi and go through SOLOing each "instrument" . SOLO one instrument (or patch?) at a time in the combi....
Some do not make any sound at all.
Even when the volume for this instrument is at 127 / max... no sound.
So...
The combis are not playing 100% on my M50.
It still plays, but some stuff is missing.
I opened it up.
I checked capacitors for bulging or leakage.
They all look ok.
I checked the solder connections for the audio out.
Removed screws from some circuit boards and removed for better look..
Looked ok.
Visual inspection looking for???... looked ok.
Made sure all the cables / connectors I could get at were re-seated.
Well... the first layer or two of circuit board cables, there are some really deep I did not want to touch.
Same problem persists,
I reloaded the OS, Step 1 and Step 2.
Same problem.
I dunno what to do.
I hardly paly this instrument. It went from playing absolutely perfect to something wrong over a period of about 2 years. Yes, it has been that long since I played it...
Any suggestions besides taking it in?

Could this be normal behaviour? Many Combis have their individual Programs set to play on MIDI channels that are other than 1. Drum sounds, in particular, are often allocated MIDI channel 10. The arpeggiators make use of these MIDI channel allocations, allowing those sounds to be triggered independently of the actual notes being played.

Do the individual non-sounding Programs make any sound when played in Program mode?

Based on the few programs I have tried so far....they seem to be working fine. Though I can not be certain there is not a little "something" missing.
No, this is not normal behaviour.
I noticed the missing sounds when playing a particular combi that had a Orchestral Celesta sound that always played with the combi before the problem.
Left audio out (mono mode) , as I have always played it.
It always used to be there, now it is missing. There are a few other "instruments" in that combi that are also not producing sound, and in a number of other combis I have tried since discovering the problem.... some instrument generate no sound (when selecting SOLO from prg 1-8 or 9-16 pages at bottom of screen)
Something is quite wrong and easily demonstrated.
what is it? |

I find that the combis don't sound complete when recording via midi. When recording them analog, they sound as they should. |
