Hi guys,
Enspired by Ozy's post on the Kronos thread, I thought it might be nice if we all shared a little about ourselves. (I know it's a girly thing to do, but humour me!)
So, I'm Emma. I'm 29 years old and I live in Felixstowe in England. I work for a shipping company in the import department. I normally specialise in their refrigerated cargo but I'm currently off work with balance problems. (it's a long story, don't ask!)
I've been playing the keyboard for as long as I can remember, but I only ever play for my own amusement. My friend keeps trying to get me to start up a band with him, but I think it will be a long time before I have enough courage for that!
My keyboard at the moment is a 10 year old Panasonic, but I'm going to buy a new Korg keyboard as soon as I can decide which one to buy! The reason why I haven't bought a new keyboard for 10 years is because my beloved keyboard has been gathering dust for the last 5 years, since I discovered the guitar! My friend taught me a few chords and I haven't been able to put it down since. I own 2 acoustic, 1 electric, but my baby has to be my Faith electro acoustic.
I love rock music but I'm pretty eclectic when it comes to music tastes. Just don't ask me to name anything in the charts! When it comes to the music I make myself, I'm very much a sort of pick up and play person. I totally respect people who can spend hours and hours tweaking buttons and things on computers. But I love to play just for the sake of playing. I love writing my own songs but haven't had any inspiration to write anything new for ages.
I'm also a bit of a computer geek. I've done a course in web design and HTML and even been a moderator on the Eidos forums.
So, this is me. I thought I would lighten the mood by showing a picture of myself dressed up for a fancy dress party. (no this is not my usual attire!)
So I've gone first. Who else will dare to bare!

Great idea Pp - so think I should support it and join in... (hope it's not a party of two lol)
My name is Neil, I'm 46 and have played music since my father made me learn piano at the age of 3.
I have 3 children, Jocelyn 18, Lewis 14 and Gemma 3.
I love tweaking and creating new sounds - I'm not the best in the world at it but it makes me happy! But creating the sound is part of the story - it's what the music makes of the sound is where the magic comes!
I am married to Betsy who is a professional cellist (hence my moniker) and we make wonderful music together I do all the hard work(!) coming up with a piece (or researching for great classical pieces), creating the sounds, then notating the music, then recording it all, then mix it - then Betsy turns up, plays for 10 mins putting the magic dust on top! Our latest piece is Canteloube's Bolero (yes, there are more than just Ravel's). I play every day for at least 2 hours but sadly don't get time to tweak as much as I'd like.
Largely we do it because we love making music - but we have a long term goal in getting our recordings to a high enough standard to put a CD together - not for money-making ends, just to hold it and say 'we did that!'.
Love all kinds of music but inevitably my own is very much classically based because of my own education as well as Betsy's.
Interestingly enough I have balance problems at the moment too :-/ I know it's not much fun, so my sympathies - don't know about you but mine is Labarynthitis and I want it to go away NOW!
My day job is completely removed from music! I am an airline consultant and I adore my job. I get paid to travel the world, visit the world's major airlines - recent one are Qantas, Singapore, Etihad, EgyptAir, Qatar Airways, United Airlines - and then I go speak to them, fly in the flightdeck with the pilots and then tell the airlines what they should do differently (on a variety of different subjects) - and they listen and do it! Magic!
I have a passion about collecting single malt whisky - have around 150 bottles now. I have found that the returns are better than putting money in a trust fund or a bank - so when Gemma's 18, they all get sold for her education, house deposit, car, whatever.
I sponsor an Olympic skier - Pamela Thorburn. I did her website and her blog - you can get to them here http://www.pamelathorburn.com
Am on Facebook as well, so will ping you a friend request
Hopefully others will join in - think it's a fab idea. Hope your balance stuff sorts out soon.
This be me: (sorry for those with a nervous disposition...!) and my setup is underneath:

This is a great idea. If anything, its just nice to put some faces to the (often quite cryptic) names.
I'm Brad. I'm currently (checks) 22.
You'll know a lot of stuff just by visiting my website, but thats impersonal and uninteresting. You can also find me on facebook. I don't mind that at all.
I've just graduated from the University of the West of England after having studied BSc Audio & Music Technology for the past three years. I'm currently unemployed but looking for a job in the computer industry.
I'll admit that I used to be a real computer geek up until about the ages of 16 (I started programming at about the age of 11), when I got into music with bass guitar and later a microKorg! My interests still include software programming and web design, and I aspire to become a music software developer. The only thing better than sound design, is designing entire synthesizer architectures from the ground up! Aside from that I'd also like to write music for film, but both of these seem to be very hard to get a foot in.
My first band was a group with a bunch of local youngsters I found online, playing classic progressive rock. I used to love Prog. I still do but I also like ambient electronic music and lately I've been writing electro-dance-rock and synthpop in my new band.

Gotta love forum meet N Greets.
My name is Fran and I'm 45 years young...or so I keep telling myself. I'm a sprinkler system fabricator by trade but I also worked in the floor mechanic field for several years.
I've been dabbling around with musical instruments (on and off) my entire life, beginning with a Magnus Chord Organ when I was 3 years old and a serious fascination with my Aunt's Kimball organ and all of it's sliders, rocker tabs, double-decker keybeds and massive foot pedals. These things would play a big roll in my life many years later after a rather lengthy yet scattered interest in guitars and drums. At the age of 28 I took my Aria ProII to the music shop for yet ANOTHER neck adjustment. Whilst waiting I sat down in front what I thought was just a basic electric piano. There were no fancy sliders, lights and knobs I associated with those cool synthesizers I knew diddly about. A salesman quickly jumped at the opportunity and educated me about what turned out to be a Korg 01/W proX. I was absolutely floored at what this thing was capable of. I never knew such technology existed. And that was that. I spent the next few months making a pest of out myself in the store, playing this glorious machine as long as I could and then finally made the $2000 plunge. I've been a die-hard Korg fan ever since. Although the "sudden death" of the Oasys has left me....well, that's another story.
Anyway, here's a pic of me in my studio...minus some other gear that got squeezed out of the shot.

Hi everybody.
Yes, Emma, it's definitely a girlie thing, but it's nice, you're definitely nice (and I say this after seeing your picture as well),
so I wanted to say hello.
I already explained myself, music, politics, gear etc., on Kronos-marathon-thread,
so that will be all.
What else?
Oh, right. A personal picture. I am camera-shy, but here it is:
that's not really me in the avatar picture [the gloved hand, I mean. Not the monkey].
here's my real hands at work:

Lol Ozy. It looks like you're playing an imaginary keyboard. Even on the pitch you still can't get Korg out if your mind! |

Hi everyone,
I'm Akos Janca, a multi-instrumentalist musician and composer, living in Budapest. I'm Hungarian, so my name really is: Janca Ákos, where Janca is the surname and Ákos is the first name. (An ancient name meaning "white falcon".) Please note the accent on "Á".
Some personal and musical details are already posted in my profile. In addition to that: I'm left-handed. I'm interested in computer science, languages, phychology, religion.
One of my pop hits from 1998: Friderika - Feltárcsáztad a szívem (You dialed my heart)

Here's is my bio posted at Karma-lab. Most of you veterans are quite well aware of who I am. But, the community has been growing; and, with KMo and KRONOS about to be released, I think it will be really start to expand.
It's nice to see faces put to names.

Hello All,
Wow, what a wonderful idea!
Let's place a face to a name, or "forum-handle".
Those with weak constitutions, and small children should leave the room now! As I'm quite a bit more hideous than any of you.
I'm Hanon_CTS
49 years old, I've been playing piano since childhood.
I made my first dollar in music, playing with a rather dreadful disco group in 1977. My rig was a Fender Rhodes stage 73, Minimoog, and an ARP Omni.
I think a dollar was exactly what we got paid, and we all had to split it 4 ways XD
I thought I'd share a couple of pics with you,
I caught this cheeky bugger prowling about the studio:
I won't say how old this one is, but the DW-6000 is brand new:
The two finger solo to Lucky Man:
Thanks for looking.
I'm looking forward benefiting from everyone's talent and experience here in the forum.
Cheers Hanon _________________ I used to play Korg instruments, then I took an arrow to the knee. |
