I've been told that Korg no longer supplies a CD drive for the Pa1x. Does anyone know where I might purchase a compatible replacement?
Thanks ~ Charley Brown _________________ Long live the Pa1x |

Hi Charley
There are "supposedly" compatible ones - HOWEVER I ended up buying one - same model details but not from Korg - I had the following problems
My MP3 player no longer worked correctly - it took me a while to figure it out but as soon as I removed the CD drive everything was fine.
Personally I think the CD drive in the PA1X it a total waste of money and time and unreliable.
Just record and save to PC or other suitable device.
Cheers

Thanks Pete:
I use the built in CD drive on my Pa1x, at gigs, to play CDs during breaks and also at weddings etc.. I have never used it to record. The advantage for me is that I have one less piece of equipment to load, cart along and set up.
I wish I could find a compatible replacement that would not produce problems as you experienced.
If anyone knows please let me know.
Thanks again Pete ~ Charley Brown _________________ Long live the Pa1x |

Just thought (not sure if you have the PA1X or Pro)
If you have MP3 board you could play MP3 music during the break from your hard drive.
If you just have PA1X then I understand your desire.
Personally I would take a tiny portable MP3 player and plug it in the audio-in on the PA1X - wouldn't be much extra but far more reliable than the CD drive (which may cause you other problems).
Sorry, probably not being much help!!

Pete:
You bring up an excellent suggestion ~ and by using an MP3 player I could arrange a group of appropriate songs rather than being stuck with "what ever" tracks are on a particular CD.
Excellent point! ~ Thanks again Charley Brown
Still wouldn't mind finding a compatible CD player in case someone at a reception or party might like to contribute their favorite.

Hi Charley
I may be able to find the reference to the drive I bought but as I said - it worked but messed up my MP3 card's performance!!! All MP3s had a constant "clicking" noise until I removed the drive.
Problem is that as Korg no longer supply it you will be taking a risk with any alternative.
I'll see if I can find the details - was a long time ago - no promises...
Cheers

eThanks Pete for the lead.
The unit is not that expensive and maybe worth a try. It's good to anticipate what might go wrong. I can always remove it if I encounter a problem.
Would be interesting to compare the specs of the original vs. any considerable replacement to see if they match.

Hi Charley,
I have brand new, PA1XPRO original Korg CD drive that I have never used. It cost me $200. Shoot me an e-mail if you are still interested. |
