I guess that I have never really had a problem with Windows - any version.

I am currently running an i5 and Win10 with 8gb RAM and have never had an issue. The upgrade from Win 7 was seamless and did what it was supposed to.

My computer experience goes all the way back to DOS 3.2 in the 80's and I've used every Windows version since. I did not like Vista much at all but I never really experienced any problems with it.

I have used other platforms, including MacOS. I have Android tablets, an iPhone6S Plus, and even have an old Dell Inspiron 10 that runs Linux.

While I do not use my main machine for studio recording, I do use it for WAV to MP3 conversion and mastering and it works just fine and I never get any lags in performance.

The computer I do use for recording audio lags a bit, but it is only outfitted with 2gb RAM and only has a 32gb SSD in it. I save everything to a 128gb SD card. I am good for about 4 stereo tracks of recording before lag sets in - since I sequence on the keyboards (usually using my Ensoniq VFX-SD or Korg M50 sequencer), the audio tracks are basically mixed before I record them.

My wife, on the other hand, has had lots of issues with upgrading Windows on her machines. One machine I built for her is a dual-processor Xeon with 32gb RAM. It cannot update to Windows 10 so we are stuck with Win 7 on it. Maybe it is on a machine by machine basis....
