Sorry, but that Demo in the video just sounds nowhere near a Minimoog Model D to me. It rather reminds me of some cheesy Casio quality.
Hope to hear something definitely better sounding from that little Behringer device...
And before someone begins ranting about youtube compression: I know, but that's not the problem: I could tell a Model D from this on Youtube anytime, like here:

I wouldn't call it Casio but I didn't hear what I was hoping for either. A lot of it is in his choice of sounds I'd say. It was all very clean and he didn't do any of the searing leads or buzzy basses I'd be getting it for. It did sound brighter than my Voyager and it still had a lot of low end so that's encouraging. Time will tell I suppose
Still looking forward to trying one out when I get the chance. |

Just the kind of in-depth comparison I was waiting for - I still can't believe the amount of snobbery in the comments towards the Behringer. It sounds absolutely fine to me.
Just get it into the stores _________________ Synth DIY Projects |

To me this is the very first Youtube Video, in which the Behringer sounds like a Model D. I stay with my view, that all Youtube demos I heard so far didn't really sound great. No idea if it was the beta stadium or they way they were programmed and played: they just didn't convince me at all.
But this video is strong evidence for a well done clone indeed. And that would definitely deserve some WOWs: a well done Model D clone at a fraction of the price of the original. After this video I will definitely check one in the store, and if it sounds as authentic as in this video, I'd buy it without any second think. _________________ Kronos 73 - Moog Voyager RME - Moog LP TE - Behringer Model D - Prophet 6 - Roland Jupiter Xm - Rhodes Stage 73 Mk I - Elektron Analog Rytm MkII - Roland TR-6s - Cubase 12 Pro + Groove Agent 5

That was my point. People were denigrating it without ever having heard someone A/B it, and just writing it off because it "just CAN'T" sound like a Mini if it's $299.00 (or $399.00) and it's from Behringer.
Well, I guess the adage is true; "Haters gonna hate."

I will withhold any opinion until I hear an extensive A/B comparison with the original. It really is the only way to verify the Behringer model's accuracy of sound. _________________ http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=807494

Take a look at the video I just linked above. The reviewer repairs Moogs for a living, and does an hour long A/B comparison with a vintage Model D (not the re-release).
Now I understand more why each Moog instrument is different... the character of the OSCs, how how you can drive them and how the filter takes it. The Model D has that great growl, which my Minitaur doesn't have at all. And the Sub37 and Phatty videos I watched have different types of overdrive sounds, not quite the growl of the D. |

First listen to this A/B test. Very close sound reproduction! There seems to be a slight hollowish (for want of a better term) on the Behringer verses the Mini-Moog. This could be explained away with slight tuning differences between the units, so therefor could be nit picking. Overall, I would say the Behringer at its pricing, is a capable alternative to the original. Wouldn't be afraid to take it out of the studio and play. May consider getting one for that purpose at its pricing. Now that does depend on if I can deal with its miniaturized layout. Hands on will be the determining factor there. _________________ http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=807494

I'm a professed Moog snob but this thing does sound good for the $$. On the video I did hear some differences between the vintage and this clone with the vintage receiving the nod. I think the differences will become more apparent with actual in-person listening. The choice between the SE02 and this one is a little more difficult now. In my case, I need patch memory so the SE02 will probably come first but I could definitely see the Behringer finding a place in my studio. _________________ Fantom 7, Kronos 2, V Synth GT, Moog Voyager |

We've got to remember that Jareth is comparing the Behringer to a 45 year old Minimoog, that he's admitted has not been properly calibrated.
He's also hoping to compare it against the MM re-issue, which I think would be a far fairer thing to do in order to discount any component aging from affecting the sound. _________________ Synth DIY Projects |

for about 300$ even if sounds about 90% close to the original it's a great job.
to my ears off youtube its around 95% there, but kinda lacking that ballsy subharmonic, might just be recording / model difference.
it's be interesting to see given this price, someone come up with a 3-4 voice synth based off these and some clever arduino/rpi midi, voice allocator engine. _________________ DX7-MOD-7 Patches | Korg Related Content

Since I was never really comparing it to a model D and now that I have heard a good comparison I am even more sold. I am preordering one. I will let my wife hold it till Christmas my birthday and Christmas are very close so she will go for that. |

It can already be done (very basically) with a PIC based 4-voice MIDI>CV converter - Controlling 4 modules via one knobby interface would be a bit of a head scratcher, but it could be achievable.
Please stop enticing me to spend more money than I have - I'll wait until my next bout of Hypomania
