|
|
I have a Kronos 1st Gen and the PROG or Program button is not functioning right. When I press PROG it goes to GLOBAL for some reason. I checked the inside of the Kronos and no indication of any physical damage. I even resoldered and interchange the tact switch and still resulting to the same issue.
Can any body help or suggest what to do? I have upgraded also and no luck.

what a miserable problem.
Did you power down and duplicate it ?
I think you have to bring it in for service. Appears to be a faulty button/connection.
do you have history with this Kronos ? if so, did the problem just occur ? _________________ Kronos 88. MODX8

Thank you for replying GregC.
I even have updated the software up to 3.1.2 and same result and it is frustrating.
I haven't used this for a while (about 2years) and then when I am trying it now this happened. This is just in the room all throughout those 2 years. |

Hello,
Or it is a software issue, or a hardware one.
If a soft issue, perhaps you could try to reload your factory configuration (with the first system) and see what appens.
If it doesn't work, the button will have to be replaced. |

as far as root cause, maybe some moisture/dust worked its way into that button area.
I recall having a Triton, and over time ( +8 years) some of the buttons worked inconsistently.
I think you should bring it to service. _________________ Kronos 88. MODX8

Hi justcall.zipt,
For example, if the Kronos was stored vertically on one side during storage, once you replace it horizontally it could loosen a connector inside. Could also be a tiny bit of oxidation, etc. I would check/move all connectors to the faulty button PCB to see if it helps. |

Yeah, probably hardware. My SY99 is completely screwed up - all the buttons are intermittent from storing it on the wall. _________________ Korg Kronos, RD-88, Yamaha VL1, Deep Mind 6, Korg Kross, author of unrealBook for iPad. |

I dont know if what im about to say is what is wrong in this case.
I had a KORG KARMA that after about ten years, pad 1 was not working right.
Sometimes it wouldnt trigger, and sometimes it would trigger pad 4.
Sprayed one shot of DeoxIt D5 into the pad.
Pressed the pad about 40 times.
Turned the synth back on and the pad was fixed. |

My first attempt would be to open Kronos up and try a few sprays of contact cleaner. Won't do any harm and could save you some money. _________________ Korg Oasys 76, Korg Kronos 2 61, Korg Wavestation EX, Roland Jupiter X, 2 x Roland A800 Pro, Yamaha SY77, MacBook Pro Retina 15-inch Core i7 2.7GHz 16GB / 768GB, MainStage 3, Cymatic uTrack24, Samson S Patch, U-PHORIA UMC404HD Audio interface, Yamaha MG16XU mixer |

On the video, you can also see that the short or ground feedback goes through the Bank I-A switch. Check all wires and connectors going to the KLM-3004 PCB. I would also shoot it thoroughly with pressured air to remove any dirt that could be causing the problem. If you are lucky, it's just that. Contact cleaner is a good idea too. |

Hi everybody... thank you for replying as it gave me some idea.
Liviou2004= I h ave tried loading the factory configuration by following this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcGYbmyPksY and no luck...
GregC= im thinking about bringing it to service... just hesitant as it takes a long time here in the Philippines...
KK= it was stored horizontally... I guess I need to check the inside again and look more carefully for anything...
aron/spaceman3/Geoff Flynn= I havent tried spraying with contact cleaner... I will do just that this weekend...
KK= thats a good observation... I will thoroughly check the PCB board... is the KLM-3004 PCB the board for the MODE BUTTONS? |

Well, I didn't speak about that kind of reset but rather of a complete reset from the CD's supplied with the Kronos when you just bought it. |

My thoughts on this is there is a short on the button board. It could be a shorted diode or it could be some foreign material has gotten on the board and damaged it.
The buttons are scanned in groups. There is a diode for each button to provide isolation since certain scanning signals are shared. If a diode shorts, then it would electrically combine buttons together.
The same result could come from a short on the board across traces. This could happen from some foreign matter getting on the board that has the ability to corrode. This could be a liquid for example.
I don't recommend using contact cleaner. The buttons are making contact and it's very hard to get cleaner inside the tact switches without getting it all over everything else.
I would take it into a shop unless you're handy with disassembly and using a meter to looks for shorts etc.

Hi everybody,
I was able to open up my Kronos and have a thorough inspection. There was a short on the PCB.
Before
(black spots... center portion of the board)
Turns out the shorted circuit was GLOBAL and not PROG.
I cleaned the board with contact spray and cotton bud to remove the black stuff off the short circuit.
After letting it dry and using a hair blower to make sure all moisture is gone before putting it all back.
After
Thank you for all your suggestion. Everybody was so helpful in getting this solved.
Big thank you to everybody.
Cheers!!! |
