|
|
I just want to share my experience if you think about: update to the new High Sierra Mac OS or not?
I installed it on day one.
I do not have any deadlines or on going things which cannot be delayed so i decided to update and see what will be.
The first unpleasant thing was in Harrison Mix Bus 32C v4 all AU plugins failed to load. So i had to rescan for them. And after first scan the DAW crashed.
And i retried that process about 4 times. And finally it detected all AU plugins and the DAW had not crashed.
(I do not use VST).
That was unpleasant experience.
But now about good things!
I just briefly tasted but it looks like CPU power of my computer has gone about twice. And my computer run the same plugins with the same settings more easily.
Also programs start more fester.
I think that amazing thing!!!
I have Apple cylinder Mac Pro late 2013 base 4 core model.
So for my self the answer is: yes to update!
But you decide by your own brain! _________________ https://слово-божье.рф

Hmmm,
I might leave it then, as my five year old Mac seems to be struggling with the current OS in the 4GB of memory it has. Maybe a memory upgrade will help (processor load usually looks OK), but, at the five year point, it's probably time for a new computer. _________________ Derek Cook - Java Developer

I am in no particular hurry. I prefer to wait out the process, give all the software cos enough time to be in sync with the new OS.
Sierra has caused enough recording ( Kronos) pain as it is, by deprecating the audio. I am shy about randomly doing this OS upgrade.
I have maxed out my I7 MBP ( 2013) with 16 GB memory and 500 GB SSD.
So I have that covered ( so far). _________________ Kronos 88. MODX8

I did the same thing to my early 2011 macbook and it makes a huge difference... it really does... having 16 gigs and a lightning fast SSD gave the mac a 2nd live
Its remarkable having a 6 year old laptop that still feels as fresh as on day 1. But then with the current macbook prices, thats a very good thing.
Where it comes to updates, i allways wayt a few weeks, most of the time any upgrade problems have been worked out by then..
I am very imterested on hearing Kronos experiences with the new OS _________________ Korg Kronos 2/88 , Genos, Mainstage3 +VSTsu, ipad pro, GSi Gemini, Roland Integra 7, Jupiter Xm, Yamaha motif XS rack, Ketron SD90.

I'm always up for a new OS - I just copy my current boot partition to another drive, update the copy then boot from that before making any permanent changes.
I've not had any problems so far, although I can't say the same for iOS 11 update _________________ Synth DIY Projects |

thats excellent and I think its budget smart. Fortunately, we have older MBP's that easily allowed more RAM , larger SSD.
I also disenaged/disconnected the DVD drive on my MBP. So I have lots of storage, the new fast SSD plus the original hard drive. USB DVD drives are cheap and easy, so I still have that covered, if needed. _________________ Kronos 88. MODX8
