hiya,

The sv1 is totally fine connecting to Logic, but I've been trying to connect the midi out directly to the midi in of the Roland SC88 and it's creating huge distortion on every sound. Is there not a way to just send a standard midi signal without crazy distortion program changes on the SV1?

Thank you for your time.

Korg forum has users who've reported what you're describing... here's a couple:

Korg Forums :: View topic - Serious/bizarre SV1 problem -- anyone else experienced it?
Korg Forums :: View topic - Distortion and overall disintegration of sound quality

I'd try a MIDI filter. Not sure it'll help as I don't use MIDI with my SV1. And I haven't found any explanation of that problem so far.
