I've just got a new Kronos 2, 88-key model.
I am delighted with this keyboard, however I have issues with MIDI driver.

My setup is:

MacPro 3,1 running OS X 10.11.6
Logic Pro X 10.3.3
MOTU 828mk3 Hybrid (connected to MacPro via Firewire )

I tried all possibilities: rebuilding kernel cache, resetting PRAM, motherboard ...etc ...

The only way to make Korg USB MIDI driver work is to unplug USB cable from Kronos and plug in while all hardware is ON.

I was wondering if anyone with similar setup has manage to make it work ?
And is such unplugging posing any risk to Kronos onboard MIDI controller ?

Thank you.

You could try uninstalling the midi driver to see if there’s any improvement.

There are previous posts on the forum that cover similar topics and may be worth reading…..a google search usually finds them.

Also consider updating the osx to High Sierra.

Unplugging and re connecting usb devices doesn't usually cause damage, but it's best avoided on a regular basis.

I tried all possibilities, incl. reinstalling. I even remove MOTU's MIDI driver ( it's not required for audio functionality ).

There are no answers ( or hints ) to my problem in this forum, Neither Apple's forum nor Google didn't help me.

Korg states that OS X 10.11 El Capitan is supported ( MIDI Driver only, as there are problems with Plug-In Editor.) My conclusion is that they did not tested thoroughly.

My Mac Pro is not supported by High Sierra. ( Anyway I would switch to Snow Leopard 10.6 if only Logic Pro X was supported, but it's not.)

I've got audio working perfectly:

Kronos 2 -> MOTU 828mk3 via Toslink,
MOTU 828mk3 -> Mac Pro via Firewire.

I could connect Kronos to MOTU via MIDI cables but Korg recommends MIDI connection via USB ( for Editor software ). I do prefer that way too, 'cos I have more bandwidth on Firewire link.

All my other USB devices works 100%, like IcyRaid external drive, Epson V330 scanner ... etc, never had any issues.

I will probably contact Korg, if they can't help me I am gonna be pretty disappointed.

I have found a very interesting news on Korg website. ( https://www.korg.com/au/news/2018/042702/ )
it's related to High Sierra, however they state:

Disconnecting and reconnecting the USB-MIDI device may fix this issue

The same remedy that I am faced with.
So there are definitely problems with Korg drivers.

There are several things to try out, you may have already done most anyway.

Try a different usb cable
If you have a spare usb2 hub, connect the Kronos via this.

The Kronos should work without a midi driver, but the editor will need it to be installed,(as you already know).

Dealing with one thing at a time.
Remove the midi driver.(Check both locations as shown below).

Macintosh HD > Library > Audio > MIDI Drivers

Macintosh HD > Users > [Your User Name] > Library > Audio > MIDI Drivers

Do a cold boot.
Mac 1st
Kronos 2nd.

Check the Audio midi Set Up utility.
All items need to have the same Sample Rate.

If all is well, download the latest midi driver and the latest Editor version, then install them as per guides.

Although this may not help you much, I have an iMac, previously using Mountain Lion which never presented any problems, but Sierra was horrendous for many, mainly on the audio side.
This has now been addressed with High Sierra and things work better.
I can’t vouch for El Capitan as I didn’t use it much.

Things should work on the midi side, regardless of which os being used.

Troubleshooting such problems can be a real pain to track down and find a solution.

Good Luck.
Do keep us informed.

I did try all what you recommend, nothing works in my setup.
Actually I found a trouble in a log -> invalid:

Code:
9/07/2018 2:28:26.000 PM kernel[0]: 010345.062641 StandardUSB::validateEndpointMaxPacketSize: USB 2.0 5.[5-8].3: endpoint 0x82 invalid wMaxPacketSize 0x0040

I have just sent email to Korg, hopefully they take a note, or a fix ( doubtful ).
Anyway thank you for your input, and time.

Although these things should always work and may be inconvenient to unplug/re-plug the cable etc.

Being the current option, all I can suggest is to maintain using the usb2 hub for the Kronos to mac route.
This would help contain long term wear within a comparatively cheaper device,as opposed to the Kronos and/or mac ports.

Meanwhile....we wait for any response from Korg.
