While in any of the Sample or Multisample pages,
- choose the Import command from the page menu to open the Load Sample window,
- press the SEARCH button and use the Search function to find files in the various media.
- Browse through the files,
- select the one to load,
- touch the Load button.
To import an SF2 file, you can choose between a single multisample or the whole bank:
- Choose MultiSample to choose a single Multisample (that is SF2 Instruments);
touch the multisample number and dial in the corresponding number.
- Choose Complete bank to import all the multisamples from the selected bank.
*
Check Override Sample Names if you want to assign the sample names a progressive number. In this case, when importing a multisample whose name is, for example, ‘Piano’, you will have all samples renamed as ‘Piano_001’, ‘Piano_002’, and so on.
*
That was the explanation of how to load soundfonts on Korg PA1000.
This way imported multisamples from sf2 are to use in the same manner as you will use Korgs multisamples in SoundEdit, where each of the oscillators is assigned to play one or two different multisamples (High and Low layers), separated by a velocity switch.

It seems to be easy, to import sf2-data but due to the deep differences with KORG’s own format, often Instruments from the SF2 file could not be imported (for example, Instruments with overlapping zones).

So it seems to be more important to know something about samples, multisamples, sounds, soundfonts and about its data structure and properties.

Soundfont-format is based on the RIFF format - a sf2-bank contains base samples in PCM format (similar to WAV files) that are mapped to sections on a musical keyboard. A SoundFont bank also contains other music synthesis parameters such as loops, vibrato effect, and velocity-sensitive volume changing etc.

A detailed description can be found in the specification, which is currently available as a copy on various company sites, e.g. at http://www.synthfont.com/sfspec24.pdf (PDF; 518 kB)

Korg only import sf2-samples but do not import the description of synthesis parameters, that often are just important as the base samples for a right-sounding voice. If no or only a few parameters are entered in the preset or instrument zone of the sf2, the adaptation is simple; it becomes more extensive the more parameters are used in these zones.

For a Korg PCG to sound like an sf2 preset played on an sf2 player, it is necessary to adjust the pcg file according to the parameters used in the sf2 preset. Therefore it is recommended to study the data structure of both formats (pcg, sf2), because there is no automatic import process for parameters of sf2- description.
