|
|
I am connecting my Electribe 2 Sampler via the USB cable to my computer. I have been trying to connect my old synth to the MIDI OUT of the Electribe, and send Sysex data from the computer via USB to the electribe, and on via MIDI Out to the synth to program patches. Needless to say, it hasn't worked yet.
I actually don't know whether any data can be passed from USB to Midi out in this way, and I also don't know if sysex data is a further issue.
I've looked at the midi info in the manual but I can't find an answer. Googling 'electribe sysex' brought me here. Does anyone know?
Thanks

The electribe2 does not manage SysEx and has no MIDI thru, whichever the port used (USB or MIDI jack). End of story. _________________ My electribe2 lousy patterns and stuff | KORG gear: NTS-1, nanoKEY2, electribe2/2S, WS/SR, WS/EX (on storage) |

Okay! thanks.
I suppose I'm still a bit confused about how the MIDI USB thing works in the Electribe. So is no MIDI signal from the USB sent to the MIDI Out? I got a device connected via the Electribe MIDI Out to sync to Ableton via USB which made me think this might work.
(edit to clarify; [Ableton master clock]---USB---> [Electribe]---MIDI Out----->[other device])
And so also nothing from the MIDI in is sent to the USB?
Is there a name for this type of USB MIDI device? It's not an 'interface' or 'host' but I don't know what to call it.
I kind of didn't expect it to handle sysex, but I saw this post talking about it:
http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=674275&sid=1c810f4ba71ccdd581854c045b69ff96
although I didn't see any mention of sysex in the linked MIDI implementation document, so I wasn't sure what they were discussing.
Anyway I guess I'm back to the drawing board on getting all these things to talk to each other! More cables/boxes I expect... |

You sure did your homework, I forgot about this one. My bad.
Anyways, the electribe does send and receive MIDI either on the USB port (i.e. you need to have the Korg USB Midi driver installed), and on MIDI jack.
But those are not linked internally, and as already stated, there's no MIDI thru whatsoever.
Your choice would be to invest in a MIDI USB interface for your computer to connect your old synth, the electribe2 having its own USB MIDI câble. Or daisy chain the electribe2 with MIDI cables after the old synth.
Or a multiport MIDI USB interface, if you want to have your MIDI gear on the same device (MIDI port 1 electribe, MIDI port 2 old synth, and so forth).
There are plenty (make sure to stay away from el cheapo noname ones if you use heavy SysEx dumps) :

This is a cool and inexpensive unit, indeed. I use one myself.
But it won't help in Bungle_Mike's case, since he does not seem to have MIDI ports on his computer, to begin with. _________________ My electribe2 lousy patterns and stuff | KORG gear: NTS-1, nanoKEY2, electribe2/2S, WS/SR, WS/EX (on storage) |

I do have a MIDI in and out on the computer, but what I was trying to do was have the Electribe MIDI out to the synth MIDI in so I could sequence it with the Electribe... but then I also need the computer MIDI out to the synth MIDI in to send the sysex data.
So slug's suggestion is close but I think I would actually need the MIDI merger rather than the thru box
https://miditech.de/en/portfolio/4merge/
the simplest solutions is that I try to get the sysex data dumped in advance and then switch the cables. Or even go back to menu diving to program this synth the old fashioned way.
Thanks for all the help and good ideas! |
