Hello Bachus, my question is: then MODX is a work station?

No...

Its in the same carregory as the montage, what yamaha calls a performance synthesizer..

However, with the full integration of the ipad(midi, audio, controll) it feels like a workstation.. the workstation features comming from the ipad..

Combine the moxd with an ipad and you have a complete mobile travel set... to live out your creativity..

But va synths like king kg, noed lead, access virus have their own position

I would go 1 step further.

While there are several differences between the K2 and MODX, I would take the MODX, assuming I was in the market for the choice.

I don't believe K2 owners will sell their boards. The satisfaction runs high.

As I stated before, Yamaha has shook things up with the MODX and the price/value is huge.

Korg likely knew in advance that serious competition for the keyboard players budget/$ was on the way.

I picked up my ordered modx6 today..
Hook it up to my ipad, with beatmaker 3, audiobus, gadget and many more synth/sound apps..

This little setup is incredible..
For being creative..
And even for performing...

Where kronos is mostly about whats in the box..
This is all about thinking out of the box..
The ipad turns the modx in a fullfledged workstation
Much userfriendly then the kronos[/quote]

this is great to read - that the iPad integration with MODX is an excellent experience. For a song writer like myself, laying down multiple tracks, workflow
and ease of use is #1.

Could you elaborate? I just would like to know, if it offers substantially more integration than other keyboard connections with the iPad, and if so, how?.

Yes.. because of the audio over usb..
To me, this makes the ipad feel like a part of the moxf..
You can even add insert effects and reverb/master effects of the moxd to the ipad audio.. espescially having the same reverb on the audio can be benneficial..

The comtroll and midi parts are currently on par with kronos.. which is allready a step forward compared to most other instruments.. but the audio over usb is a huge thing to me.. it works extremely low latency..

And there is an upcomming daw comtroll feature, that does the same for moxd as it did for montage 2.5.. which adds huge daw and vst controll trough a nice interface, which can be set up for ipad to...

Where it comes to midi..
Its a matter of mindset.. the moxd offers 8 midi channels (9 to 16) to the ipad.. while i keep the channels 1-8 as parts for the keybed.. it adds some structure...

Its not just the moxd tough that makes me enthousiat, but also the ipad itselves, with apps like beatmaker 3, cubasis and gadget all combined trough audiobus 3 it offers a huge amount of flexibillity...where beatmaker is a little ableton and cubasis is used for streaming standard midi..and gadget mostly as platform for the gadgets.. but i guess thats the same on every other keyboard..

So far it works extremely well for me.. extremely lightweight... and extremely flexible.. just get a nice bag... throw it overyour sholder and off you go with your set into the world...

Maybe its not even the integration between ipad and moxd that makes it so much fun..
But me rediscovering the ipad as a musical tool..

Yesterday i dowloaded a simple app named loopy hd..
And 4 hours later it was..
So much fun playing with a simple looper and the moxd..

And all in the living room..

Just got home from GC, got the 88key version of the MODX. I haven't been this excited about a Yamaha synth since the original Motif came out.

I heavily tested the Montage too and even though it's basically the same synth more or less, I prefer the MODX so much better. Maybe it's all in my head! I am just really excited!

I still have the blue An1X (my fave all time Yamaha synth).

We have both the Kronos and the Montage in our studios.
The MODX is great sounding synth with a combination of FM and AWM2
The reason we went with the Montage is that we have musicians come in
who want all the sliders and buttons to optimize their sound on the fly.
With the lit knobs and sliders you always know where your levels and settings are in the mix.
The lack of aftertouch is a deal breaker for us.
The integration with our Pro Tools and Logic DAWs is also lost in the MODX
The right side shortcut buttons allow fast performance changes without
staring at the screen....which can get a bit tiresome
The Montage has 36 tracks out via USB....the MoDX has 10.
But on the other side....the Montage is a boat anchor and the MODX is very light...great for taking to gigs...
Is the Montage worth 2x the cost....probably not...
But we plan on keeping it around a long time .....hell we still use our Korg M3
Quite a bit.

** Gas Warning**

I have noticed/read that most folks that demo the MODX at their local GC's purchase it. I sense this is a stronger trend than usual for a new keyboard.

I was going to follow the herd and try it out at GC. Changed my mind. There is a diff between wanting something and needing something. This is 1 way to control an impulse Smile

Twisted Evil

I'm having a look at the MoDX6 today - It's hugely tempting if only to have a Yamaha wave set to compliment the Kronos.

It seems very good value considering the price here in the UK.

I purchased my Kronos X61 in 2014 because I was bored waiting for Yamaha to come up with a Kronos competitor and of course EX5 successor.

I am glad this happened as it got me more into Korg, where prior to the Kronos I had always been a Yamaha fan (DX7, SY77/99 AN1x, EX5, FS1r). But when Yamaha's 40th anniversary synth was a boring, boring, boring Motif in a white paint job then it was the Kromos for me!

When the Montage came out, I was critical that it was ONLY a two engine synth, what happened to AN and VL and FDSP? Why only "half an FS1r", missing all the format features?

But I then demoed a Montage as I was looking to retire my EX5 from gigging and when I checked it out for what it was, as opposed to my paper wish list, I was very impressed.

I've owned the Montage 7 for a year and (barring a few stupid points where Yamaha could do better), I am very happy with it, and I can see why a MODX variant at half the price is selling like hot cakes.

It is a fine concept and a lot of inspirational fun.

Well, I had a play with the MODX, but ended up buying a second hand MOFX6 with 1Gb Flash for almost half the price. I prefer the DX engine on the Kronos and the AWM2 on the MOXF was virtually the same as the MODX.

I got what I wanted with less strain on my wallet Wink

That sounds smart. Using it as a module mostly ? I like AWM2.

I suppose the FX may have been tweaked on the MODX ? Plus MODX has that instant gratification with S-knob. But you gain other stuff with MOFX.

There should be a feature comparison chart somewhere

I had a nice 1hr long demo on the modx today.. Such a cool neat entry level board that sounds so premium. I'm going to order one before Christmas. Lol Razz
