With the introduction of the new baby arranger by Korg I have also started working on a new set of Musical Resources that will be more comprenhensive and of a higher level than the factory presets. They include 160 new Performances, user styles, user sounds, etc.
For details and questions see my website, page 7:

Hi John/others
i ordered the MA, pressed on the demo (styles and song ) no sound
no sound no sound. Global speakers on local on. Korg told me it was broken in transit. awaiting another. What a bummer!!

I am going to be frank here, at my own expense since you are all happy with arrangers, none i have used as yet. I want a device that perhaps doesnt exist. Something helps the creative process not hinder it or extend it. i have done plenty of music using Garageband and alot of time has been spent ( wasted? ) who knows
http://losackmd.posterous.com/

What ive heard here does not impress me at all. I am worried i am expecting too much from an MA. I use an M3 and Gbs sounds and much can be accomplished with these two with enough experience/ talent etc. love the combis but without a learning curve a huge one i cant do anything with them to change drum beats or bass lines etc. I start off great and the sound is wonderful but then what next? I am not new in the music songwriting field. I just feel that when i start writing a song ( singing the lead ) not playing these corny right side of the keyboard leads that i think sound too wedding/ bar mitzvah like, I want a sophisticated background to assist me in doing so. They made a good point in one of the demos that once you start working you stop creating and lose interest in all the technology. Music is so subjective please dont take my words as criticism they are observations based on my listening experience.
id like to ask a few questions before the new MA arrives and before i might eventually sell lit and start again from scratch.
1. these demoes i just heard, without the lead played are these styles
able to be embellished adding or subtracting the rather annoying guitars they have for example?
2. Can i add strings, or for that matter any of the 600 plus sounds in the machine as part of the style so they dont all seem to sound the same, coming from a player piano?
3. Can i organize a song in any way i want to using different styles once written into the song to make them sound a bit more unique even though they are used as background?
ya gotta admit there is too much monotony in these Pa demoes perhaps good for weddings but not for individual innovative songwriting. Again i mean no harm in these criticisms i just hear what i hear and i want to optimize the MA to such a degree that id have sophisticated instrumentation with a rhythmic backgrounds that are professional sounding.
4. Would you say if i didnt like these demoes and those ive heard on youtube that i shouldnt take this machine and other arrangers seriously?
Is this what i heard from the demos their real appeal?
i might just want the drum and bass heard for background.
i will also be adding layers of M3 and Garageband into the mix.
Does anyone have a song not an instrumental using the MA?

in the end its the effort one makes to write a good song not the instrumentation, I just got sucked in by the advertised creative process not being stopped when working on a song.
I would appreciate any advice from any of you
i mean absolutely no harm or offence
i am just learning about these arrangers.
having gone to music stores its impossible to really get the most from them
too many buttons and learning curve. but what i heard from a 4,000 pa3x something i wasnt really impressed but those were the main styles

my main question to you all is how much and to what extent can i modify alter embellish make natural sounding styles in stead of the automatic
toyish sounding one ive heard thus far. am i barking up the wrong tree?

thanks for your patience
glenn

Gee Glenn you do have an awful amount of question, not sure I can help but I will try.
I am just listening to your " The World outside ", sound quite nice to my ears anyway.
i am not sure you would want an ARRANGER keyboard, perhaps you should look at a Korg Kronos ( expensive though) or Yamaha Motif.

Of course the Micro Arranger is an incredible machine when it comes to "bangs for the bucks ". If you ar using it without any other keyboard or synth that has Midi and large keys you might want to reconsider and buy the PA50sd instead.Exactly the same keyboard but with large keys , larger screen etc. and much better internal amplification. Mind you it is about 200 dollars more expensive.......
As to your specific questions :

1. these demoes i just heard, without the lead played are these styles
able to be embellished adding or subtracting the rather annoying guitars they have for example?
I assume you are talking about the four sets of demos that I have placed on my website ? Of course you can add and substract and change as much as you like, certainly on a KOrg arranger keyboard. But if you want to do a lot of that it would be ill-advised to get the Micro. At least you would want the PA50sd which is more convenient if you want to do a lot of tweaking and programming yourself. Alternatively, but more expensive you might consider a new PA500 or a second-hand PA1X even……

2. Can i add strings, or for that matter any of the 600 plus sounds in the machine as part of the style so they dont all seem to sound the same, coming from a player piano?
You can add whatever you like, can start building a new accompaniment from scratch if you like. Mind you very time consuming and complicated.
You can also insert certain accompaniment phrases of one style into another style, etc.
If you listened to my demos, still assuming, they are related to my personal taste in music and my age as well I suppose ( ….60….). But all of the Korg arrangers are very sophistacted and sound professional. Of course the PA3X e.g. sounds better but costs about 6 to 7 times the amount of the Micro. And drum and bass wise the differences are not even that big in my opinion.
Guess I just answered that in the previous paragraph. You can dead easily mute some accompaniment tracks which will leave you with drums and bass. And you can dead easily alter drum and bass sets. If you go to my youtube page there are a few songs which I recorded in my livingroom with virtually the sole use of the PA50 (= Micro). Will not be your taste, but it might show you how it sounds with vocals. Do listen with appropriate gear though and not thru silly laptop speakers etc.

Sorry Glenn, but I went out of my way to answer your questions extensively. This topic is about the Micro. In your case and seeing all your questions I suggest you go to a large music store with folks who know what they are talking about and get yourself going there behind different keyboards.
Good luck,

John

the problem is no one knows what theyre talking about in music stores
or for that matter any other store.
the best customer is one who reads and self informs
the salesman is there to make a buck whether he has to tell you BS or not
he doesnt know what he is talking about. this is MANHAATTAN.
too many products out there too many learning curves.
thats why i went to the user himself.
sorry ive wasted your time.
thanks for whatever time you gave me.
all i did was ask you why YOU TOLD ME TO NOT TO GET A PA.
this wasnt extraneous to the MICRO topics.
relax and enjoy
ill seek out other users

I ordered last month after reading this thread here about extra and better sounds ofr my new Micro Arranger compared to the factory presets

A big Canadian "thank-you" to John S. for promoting his Musical Resources package of countless additional ENHANCED sounds and styles for the Korg Micro Arranger...because...
Ever since the transfer to John of the nominal donation suggested . . .
. . . I have been totally happy.
I am not tech-savvy. His package is loaded with much more inspriing "styles".
The stuff is easy-to-load; and the sounds are all WONDERFUL.

Please contact me directly at newday5229@gmail.com if you have any questions as to either:
1) the package of Musical Resources
2) John's professional, outstanding follow-up "customer service".

Hi,
do mA have a feature to reset factory settings and revert all to initial state?
After some tryings it's rather possible to get original styles, programms and performances destroyed (not fuully, but still not as it was at beginning), terefore I look for a way to restore all.

So far it looks, that I have to make backup and then rstore it, once something is missing. Is it so?

Thanx

Correct, you have to make a BACKUP of the original contents. There is no button on the Micro itself to go back to the original factory data. Why anyone would want to is a mystery to me anyway, but like I said you always have to work via Back Up.
You can download it from the Korg site.
If you send me an email I can also send you the factory BACKUP file. ( about 6Mb).....

Hi John,
Thank you for reply and advise.
Can agree, that, might be not necessary to restore factory data for experienced users of Keyboards, as they collect and create their most favorite styles and so on, but I just started to learn mA and in case if some styles I changed in accident (I'm not sure if I did it, but still) would like to have possibility to restore them back.
Later on, when I will be more familiar with mA - and style changes will be just as file copy&paste on PC, sure, I will use my own or some collected styles.

I checked CD that came in box with mA, there are following files
(structure as in CD).
Is that resource for restoring to Factory set? Then it is not necessary to send by e-mail, at least if I have newer files on CD as you could send.
My files are listed below.

Additionally, I have some questions:

1. if mA starts and SDD card is inside in reader, mA asks to load or not system from card (There is created backup)
I usually press <No> and start from mA system.
If I would place files from CD in SDD, then this step would be restoration of system or what?

2. Would it be a way for different sets of styles or like gig sets on SDD's?
As user stules' number for one set is limited (ca50), then I could place various sets of styles on different SDD and change them as needed...

3. How to use song book, if possible, for MIDI files? Should I put songbook db file on each card?

Thank you

Hello 2Mix,

To simplify matters and not give you a lenghty reply here I am going to include
THREE links. Using these you can download
1.
The complete factory presets
2.
My personal "starters manual"
3.
My personal "advanced manual ".

Of course I would be pleased if you or anyone else for that matter would also be interested in my actual software ( the 2012 Resources) but you can download all the aforesaid information for free.

One thing that you can find in them and which I would already want to highlight here is this :

"...The Micro is a copy of the Korg PA50 which originally came without a SD drive but with a floppy drive. Hence the Restore Data only recognizes the command : BACKUP and you can not name it. In other words if you load another of my sets you first have to remove the previous one from the SD card and on the computer load another Restore Data set (called BACKUP) of mine. Alternatively you can use several (small) SD cards and mark them what data they contain.
Even an old 16, 32, 64Mb card is amply sufficient and often you can get those for free if you go to your local photo shops.
My 2012 Resources included as much as FIVE different BACKUP files, each containing 160 new Performances, hundreds of user styles and user sounds.
"

Here ar the links:

Good luck,

Hello John,

Thank you a lot for advises and links provided.
Will try to figure things out of what is written, and, in case of problems will come again with questions.

Canadian greetings,
Since I have loaded only the one (1) set of 2006 files acquired from John S. "Musical Resources" I have found much great stuff to "play" with.
As a result, I have not wanted to go backward and restore the original Korg factory settings.
I became familiar with the original factory sounds/styles. It has been one (1) month now since I loaded John's Musical Resources for KMA. Each day I'm on the MA and yet I have not finished going through all of the improvements and helpful TWEAKS from just one of his files.
Who would like to compare notes?
Thanks,
David

Of course, that is why the links are there.
I think however that if you want to download them you first have to sign up with BOX.
And of course that is entirely free.

good luck,
