Hi

My Korg Kronos was working perfectly until I connected it to my PC via USB. Since disconnecting when using the Karma Combinations they all sound very corrupt. Pressing a key sounds like it is making a ticking noise.

It works fine with Karma Combinations off the problem is solely with combinations. I'm thinking it may be due to some midi setting that has changed.

I have turned the keyboard off multiple times and i also reloaded the factory preload.pcg. I'm lost on what is causing this.

Any help would be so grateful, i'm hoping it isn't broken Sad

Thanks in advance

Paul

Disconnect usb and PC. Then reboot

Hi I have done that all disconnected but its still persisting. I do think it is midi related. Is there a way to say reset the Karma Combinations settings solely?

I am not sure because I can't see/hear your K.

How about Programs ? Are they 100% ? Then add Karma and/or Drum track.
Are they 100% ?

To be methodical, did you make changes in Global , then write them ?
[it could be that simple]

Another wild guess your PC pushed all the programs within your Combis to midi channel 1

Thanks Greg

I was in the global settings at one point but i don't recall changing anything.

Is there any form of just setting all settings back to default without a full factory reset.

What you are saying about midi all going to channel one, that might have something to do with it.... It just all sounds very corrupt.

Is there anything i can refer to to say check all midi or default global settings againts? Just can't work this one out Sad

You didn't mention anything about backing up your data- which is something we preach about almost daily.

If you don't have a back up PCG, loading your Factory PCG should correct
all problems and return your K to original state.

Before jumping to that, lets see what you have for Global/Midi/midi setup.

You should have Midi Channel=1

Local Control on- Box checked.

Type out what else you show

Thanks

I have the settings you state;

Basic Midi Channel 1 and local control on

Midi Clock - Internal and ticked for receive Ext. Realtime Commands

Vector mid out - Vector Joystick
Pads Midi out - chord notes

Karma External routing - enable Karma module to Midi Out ticked
Enable midi to Karma module is also ticked

MIDI Filter - Enable Program change ticked, Bank Change ticked, Conbination change ticked, Enable after touch, Enable Control Change, Enable Exclusive

Any of those wrong?

Check these settings:

Global > Basic > Basic > Load KARMA Settings when changing Program > ON (ticked)

Global > Basic > Basic > Load KARMA Settings when changing Combi > ON (ticked)

Both of these settings show as being ticked.

When playing Karma to me it sound like it may be playing general midi as opposed to using the Kronos sounds making them sound so awful. Just can’t work this one out.

Ive uploaded a video to you tube to so you can hear how it sounds. I can take further videos to show more settings to check if you know of any.

In global mode you have Midi tab page.
And on that page, you have “Midi setup” section where the Global midi channel is set.
Also on the same page is the section for “Drum Track Midi Setup where the globa drum track channel is set..

Has the global midi channel been changed to match the drum track channel or the drum track channel been changed to match the global channel?

Default should be global channel set to 1.
And drum track channel set to 10.

Even having global drum track set to something other than 10 but not matching the global channel, can cause issues with Karma where Karma is able to “Midi I/O” midi notes to internal sounds like drums, using channels other than global. Rogue notes can arise when using a drum track channel that is also being used by Karma.

Explore drumtrack midi setting to see if that is making the issue. Channel 10 is default midi channel for global drum track.

Thanks for the replies. Checked the drum track channel and it is set to 10 with midi channel on 1.

I’m thinking I may need to do a full factory reset.

I did explore the reset option before and because I have the latest filmware when I went to reload preload.pcg file it states a message ‘The file was created on an older version of the Kronos. Remap references to factory programs to use new order.

I had also previously installed Ex14, Ex17 and Ex18 to bring it up to date with Kronos 2. I’m assuming a full reset I will lose all of them and start from scratch?

Even after reloading from factory preload.pcg file the problem still exists.

I was thinking next steps are to get the original DVDs out and doing a full format and reloading from discs might need to be my next step.

Because I have the latest filmware from Korg would this cause any complications? I’m assuming the filmware is held on the Kronos motherboard as opposed to SSD?

MIDI Filter - Enable Program change ticked, Bank Change ticked, Combination
change ticked,

Any of those wrong?

your midi filter might be the culprit.

I do not have those 3 boxes 'ticked'.
