|
|
While making a set list my Kingston 32GB stick quit working. I have tried other ports and I can't even get a drive letter. Kingston advises a reclamation specialist(fat chance). The good news is that most of the data was copied to my HD. The bad news is that I lost all of my set lists and SB. Foolishly, I backed up to my USB, not thinking it would die on me; WRONG! Managed to find some old back ups on my PC:
3 different set back up which are about 3 MB each
1 full resource back up about 13 MB
I never really understood the system of Direct sets, but was using that instead of internal. I know I am going to have to start over, but if I could get an older SB and some of the set lists, it would help.
Any help for an old non technical man would be appreciated.

Hi Bernie
"Murphy's Law" got you!!! That's so unfortunate.
I play every week with my trio and we always make some small changes or new things - I backup my PA4X EVERY week to a new SET on the SD card, Hard drive and internal SSD - that backup also gets placed on my PC which is also backed up every day. I haven't catered for my house being destroyed or burgled but should really place this stuff on Cloud storage like iCloud or Google-Drive.
Am I paranoid? - absolutely not - modern day computer media (particularly USB sticks) are unreliable and some very badly made.
None of this helps you right now (sorry)
Hope you find a backup copy you can use.
Firstly, backup your current data and then try the SETs and resource backups you found.
Let me know if you need assistance

Thank you Pete. I am in Media Utility. Do use Full Resource Backup, save to HD? I don't trust USB anymore. Then, how do I try loading the newest Set I have saved? I am leary of loading back the old Full Resource save as I don't know what it will change. I haven't much to lose except my ver 2 OS and data on my HD I want. Without knowing what I am doing, I guess I am a bit paranoid, _________________ pa4x

Hi Bernie
Do a backup first right now (for example to HDD) - creating a new .SET so at least you can get back to this current state.
I am unsure a bit here of exactly what you have saved, but could you not simply load your latest saved SET you found on your PC and see what you get?
You can always go instantly back by loading the SET you have just created.
If you restore a BKP (resource) backup then this will overwrite your current data
BUT FIRST....
What version are you running right now?
What was the version you were running when you created the "resource" backup (BKP)?
I want to make sure you are not going to mix versions....

The BKB file is pre ver 2. I won't touch it. How do I save a set and load another? _________________ pa4x

I found and loaded an old .set file that gives me a start. On the bright side, it is like being given a clean slate to rebuild a little differently.
I can always count on you Pete. Thanks again.

A 2x4 to the side of the head is just about equal to this. I shall not forget again, to be sure, but thanks for the reminder anyway ha ha. _________________ pa4x

I have a stick in my arranger. I have a duplicate stick in the case (in case the main one fails). I have another stick on my keychain (in case I sit in on someone else's arranger). I have another stick at home in the backup arranger for working on stuff until it's ready to gig.
And I have a backup of the stick on my computer's HD and a backup of that on another HD...!
It's an utter PITA to keep them all synchronized (but not the end of the world if not, as I still have most of my gig setup on all, and would only lose at most a tune or two I may have worked on before I backup the new stuff).
But you are finding out why I do this!
Getting another arranger is easy. Getting years of work done for them, not so easy! |

If flash driver has not been burned electrically , you can be the specialist and recover thumb driver data !
Put flash driver in a computer USB port , goto Computer Management/Disk management , Refresh and if OS can see flash
disk in any state unallocated or not (if valid give a letter path) , then you can reclame lost data via many existing utilities.
This you all need for any of your personal and valuable files , is multiple backups no matter of media storage type , magnetic
disks are the most reliable storage media after all years of experience and nand/flash cells of thumb drives , mSD and SSD are in
the expandable category where your data will be vanished suddenly one day just like that , with zero warnings or symptoms ! _________________ Music Conductor - Sound Engineer & Developer - Automotive SMPS/RF R&D - Electronics Engineer

This means that OS explorer can't find directory of this flash memory since some cells are destroyed , but it might can still be restored
by a recovery software if you restart file explorer. _________________ Music Conductor - Sound Engineer & Developer - Automotive SMPS/RF R&D - Electronics Engineer

Nothing happens and properties indicate 0 bytes. I presume it is not able to be read. Since my pc recognizes the devise as "G", what utilities are available to salvage any date. My SB directory was my main loss. _________________ pa4x

Some reliable PC utilities are EaseUS Data Recovery & Recuva for recovering media data loss , but first you have to
recover damaged/unread cells , surface and directory trying some other tools like AOMEI or PARAGON tools , usually
bios bootable HDD Regenarator utility can do the job although it's not made for such applications.
Hope this helps , good luck ! _________________ Music Conductor - Sound Engineer & Developer - Automotive SMPS/RF R&D - Electronics Engineer
