I have downloaded new OS to USB, copied my USB, which contains my direct set, to ext drive as a backup. Since I am using direct set exclusively, Pete told me not to do something, but can't find the thread.

Bernie

Do a full Backup of the current OS

Then perform a SAVE ALL

Extract 3.1 to your Memory Stick on your PC and read the Installation Instructions that are with the extracted files, and follow the instructions in the file.

Once updated you will need to do a Factory Restore.

Following a restart you are good to go.

Do check that your Direct folder is still functioning and test out your own sets.

Hi Bernie, if you run everything from a DIRECT SET, the OS update will not affect it BUT it is always sensible to backup your DIRECT SET by "copying" it.
It is possible that you might need to re-link/assign your DIRECT SET (I think I had to do this after an OS update - can't remember which one!!)

Anyhow it's still a good idea to perform a Save All and create a full set of your internal data first - even though you are not using internal styles, this will at least enable you to return to your 2.0 status if needed.

Cheers

Pete Very Happy

(In answer to one of your earlier questions, what I said NOT to do is a Save All to your DIRECT SET - that will destroy your DIRECT SET)

Ah! That was it. I knew it had to do with "Save All". I guess I can save it to HD?

On my USB memory stick with it in my PC I created folders one called Backup, another SaveAll and even one called Direct.

I save the OS backup to the Backup folder by naming it as the date and OS version number.

I save the save all to the SaveAll folder by naming it as the date.

This way there is no chance of me overwriting my own dot set files and it is very easy to select the correct file to reload customised content.

Yes, the folder named Direct is the one set for direct access, I am an old guy and like to keep things simple.

Hi Biggles
I am an old guy, also, and agree with you. In fact, simple is mandatory. I already have installed the update with the single save method, and all appears fine. It is now time to explore the new features, thanks to you and Pete.

A full Backup will enable you to reinstall the version you backed up should problems arise with the update.

The SaveAll is important as it enable you to reload the customised sets you have created.

Hence running both routines is really necessary prior to updating, I only missed the SaveAll once shortly after getting my PA and I lost so much data.

Here is where I am confused:
I backed up full resources to ext drive.
I had copied my mem stick, which held my Direct Set I use.
I did a Save All to my Pa4x HD,

After installation, I loaded Factory Resources and re chose my Direct Set again from the mem stick. I am wondering if there is data in the Save All I may have missed. There is also a question of adding in the new music resources that is in the new update. I don't want to mess up what I have,

The only known mistake I made was to not copy my mem stick again, but chose to use my copy I had made a month ago, hence missing some data.

Hi Bernie,
Your save all, should open up , and you should be able to see what you saved ie styles, sounds etc. sets. So if you are missing stuff after the update, you can load it back in. That’s the idea of a Save All.

Do not do a full resource backup from V2 because it overwrites factory resources and the global from V2 as well as the sound order is different so it will cause problems. A save all is fine but i recommend deleting the global preset from that folder after saving. To make sure you save everything simply press Shift+Memory and uncheck all protect options from the media tab of that page then do a save all to any drive with more than 850mb free.

Thank you both. This clears things up for me, somewhat.
