Hello,

I've been trying to find some insight on how to create a custom drum kit from drum samples I made on my MPC. I have a bunch of .wav files I want to make drum kits out of to play on my Kronos but I'm at a lost on how to do this? Do any of you know of any tutorial on this?

Basically you need to assign your .wav files to keys and save them in a multisample/drumkit.

The more complicated way is to import all .wav into the kronos and make a drumkit there.

The easier (but still complicated) way is to make the multisample on a computer using a soundfont editor, import the multisample as a .sf2 file into the Kronos and save it as a drumkit.

The necessary steps in the Kronos are described in the Kronos manuals.
In short:
- Load the (multi-)samples in disk mode
- Since the samples are only loaded into RAM you need to save them in a .KSC
- Add the .KSC to autoload
- Assign the samples to keys in global mode (you can skip this if you imported your samples in a multisample)
- Save the multisample as a drumkit
- Play and have fun!

for importing (multi-)samples, making drumkits/multisamples and storing them as .KSC files with autoload

@ blazerunner, sorry to drag up an old thread, but did you ever get anywhere with your drum kit project? I'm looking for old classic drum kits (Linn, Roland etc) but can't find anything available at a decent price.

They're very easy to find. A quick internet search for 'drum wavs', 'drum samples', 'vintage drum wavs', Linn drum wavs', or anything similar, will take you to many links for free drum samples. Searching ebay for similar items will do the trick as well - you will be able to pick up what you want for a very low price. Some listings are for full collections of vintage drum boxes, maybe 2-300 old drum machines in one download, whilst others are for specific machines or makes.

I have not watched the videos yet, but I have to imagine that of equal importance to finding drum samples, is the order in which they are mapped to the keys, right? Otherwise, existing drum patterns won't work as intended.

Is there a graphical map of said drum mappings?

No, it's not of equal importance. It depends on how you use the drum kits. If you are only going to use the preset drum patterns then, yes, you will need to map the samples to the keys that most - but not all - factory drum programs use. But using the preset patterns is ultimately very restrictive, and I don't think Blazerunner mentioned using them. It's more likely that he makes his own rhythms and, that being the case, it doesn't matter where you assign the drum sounds.
