Triton LE 88 - Key plays full velocity - UPDATE - Fixed

Post by ruminatorjim »

I just picked up a Triton LE 88 today for 250 bucks with stand case and pedal. Everything works great except one key that plays full velocity. i can very gently play it to get a lower velocity but with normal playing it goes all the way to full velocity. Is this maybe a key problem or electrical? Is it easy enough to take apart and check the key? or replace it? Ive taken apart several (not korgs) to replace/repair keys.

should be a bad pad in the keys contacts..
or it has shed most of the carbon off..
I have used this stuff and it works well!!

MUSIC KEYBOARD PIANO SYNTH REPAIR- Fix Conductive Keypad Switches & Key Contacts.
or you can order a new pad strip if you can still get them...
harder to find some of this stuff for older synths...
the pad could be crushed out too...
90% rubbing alcohol works the best for cleaning the pads and the contacts...
I use t-paper... it works the best...
and does not streak or leave fuzz like the cotton..

Triton LE 88 - Key plays full velocity - FIXED

Post by ruminatorjim »

First i took apart the keyboard - after removing the keys (i decided to give them a good clean and relube) i turned over the keybed/hammer assy and couldnt believe my eyes - almost every screw on the keypad circuit boards were either loose or really loose/backed out. This was very evident where i was having issues with one key hitting at full velocity.
When pushing the top of the pad/circuit board it would push away from the chassis then bounce back causing full velocity to be struck.

I tightened all screws - cleaned everything as i was there - relubed with white lithium grease and reassembled.

Plays like brand new!

White lithium grease may not be the best lubricant for keyboards. It is mineral oil-based and tends to adversely affect certain plastics and rubbers. Yamaha key grease was the preferred grease to use on quite a few Korg keyboards and, of course, Yamaha, too:
