For anyone interested in messing with something that offers a glimpse at the earliest days of arrangers, an amazing virtual Optigon is available for free for iPad. https://www.gearnews.com/ioptigan-classic-70s-chord-organ-scratches-its-lo-fi-auto-accompaniment-onto-ipad/
For those that don’t know the Optigon, it was an early 70’s arranger (of sorts!) that used LP disks to store recorded loops of rhythm sections playing in a variety of styles in different chords (maj, min and dim) that you triggered by holding down buttons with the LH while you played basic organ sounds with the RH.
The iPad version is a complete recreation of the original, with 25 of the disks free, and an additional 15 disks for a small in-app purchase. It can be run with MIDI (so maybe hooked up to your PA4!) and is quite frankly, amazing, especially for the price!
I hope this doesn’t violate your vendor policy (especially as it’s free!) but I just thought some of us might like to play around with one of the instruments that kicked off the whole arranger thing...
Mods, please feel free to delete the post if it violates your policies. |
