Hello guys, I did a search for Steve Perry’s song Oh Sherrie and I didn’t find my answer. I’ve found a few videos on YouTube, some good, some not so good, but nothing specific for the Kronos. I know that an arpeggiator is running on at least one program. What I’m asking is, does anyone have a good combi in mind that will help me get started on this project? Thanks

That’s probably a good idea. After watching a video he did some time ago on Toto’s Africa, I managed to get that one done. He’s a brilliant gentlemen.

I have seen that one from THE man that played it. Too bad it’s played on that Yam thing.

Good find Greg!

The arpeggiator is only used in the into and outro, so that shouldn't be that hard to re-create. Especially with the YouTube video Greg posted - you can see the original voices which were layered.

Using Karma on the Kronos, you should be able to get the note ranges, tempo and dynamics dialed in fairly easily.

To me, listening in (and before seeing the video), I was thinking that it would be more challenging layering in all of the sounds and being able to perform enough by myself to properly represent the original - there's a lot to it.

Seeing that video, it makes sense since he used four different synthesizers and sequenced everything.

That could be a fun one for sure - good luck.

You’re right, it’s not as simple as one might think.

In my case I just sampled the thing and play over it.

That’s one approach, but I’m trying to deal with this head on.

One thought I just had, and I gave it a listen again, is that the arp isn’t memorable or remarkable so I suspect if you get a timbre that is close it will likely be good enough. The other timbres and phrases are far more crucial to the representation IMHO.

Plus, Karma GE's are organized by category.

with some digging, and experimenting, I bet there is a Karma GE that can be assigned.

I tried the "Beauty Keys" patch and set the tempo of the arp to 102bpm. I just turn it on with the Karma button and turn it off when the riff slows down.

I'm sure there are better options but this is what I've come up with so far. If anyone has a better idea, I'm all ears.

Since I requested help with this project, I found this video on YT. I eventually created a combi on my Kronos for the intro and ending of the song using the clues in this video. This gentleman is a creative genius.

Could you share the patch names and parameters/arp you came up with for the Kronos?
