Hi everyone

https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwjwksPBgfXsAhWcQUEAHXuFDPkQwqsBMAF6BAgEEAM&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DNkw0nladyLI&usg=AOvVaw1Pr70OMCCX-MeBIEuMdehN

It’s a “KROMOS”

Could there be a new Kronos in the works ?

Yes, this has been discussed countless times but with this new development - let’s discuss again!

Not even the least tiny enhancement on the Synh engines !!

Just read the specifications : its the exact Kronos without Karma.

Even the available RAM has not been enhanced !!
The SSD Drive is the same 60 GB....

Oh, yes, there is a modification : the screen is smaller than the Kronos. Wouah ....
And another one : no aftertouch anymore...what a progress !!

Nothing more to say .....

Oh, yes, I forgot : As for the choice of name .... you all know the end of the Nautilus: Captain Nemo scuttles it to sink with it !!

Maybe Stephen Kay will customize the karma software for the Nautilus. If so, please at least the 3.0 version.

What’s the deal with dropping AT? Yamaha did the same thing when releasing the MODX. Aftertouch is VERY useful with an FM synth. Otherwise why have it on the Montage?

Another big shortcoming of the Nautilus is the lack of 9 sliders that can be used for drawbars with the organ engine. Very disappointing.

Yes, and the price of Yamaha MODX is 40-50% of the price of Yamaha Montage, not 75-80% as in the case of Korg Nautilus. I am disappointed too.

Aftertouch is very useful is numbers of situations. Not only for FM synth. It brings an additionnal modulation source.
It is very important for an enhanced expressiivity, used together with the Modwheel.

one of the great features of the Nautilus is the "expression" knob. All the other control surfaces have been taken away, but this knob allows you to completely disable velocity, so the guitar guy cannot get louder than you at a gig, you can just be loud as possible no matter how hard you strike the keys.

so I think no after touch + no velocity is a huge innovation. some other manufacturers were disruptive enough to take away AT, but no one has been bold enough to take away AT AND velocity, not to mention giving this a knob of its own, when all the other knobs and ribbons and joysticks and buttons and sliders didnt make the cut.

Disrupting users' expectations of faster, better, cheaper, is really good business.

Its not supposed to be a new or "better" Kronos". This is released only to combat the Modx. There is some "acceptable" cut downs from the Kronos in a cheaper package for those who don't bother with aftertouch. The modxalso have slightly more simpler modulation matrix than the Montage.

Korg have missed a model like the Modx that have pretty much the same basic sound engine as the top tier workstaion with some cutdowns more on functionality than sound quality.

I am still hesitant to put money on wether there will ever be a "Serious" update to the Mothership Kronos

I guess then can now add the new arp and drum sequencer functions on a kronos software upgrade... :-p

No keyboard aftertouch just kills a lot of expression. The dinamic button does nothing a kronos can't already, just puts it on a hardware button.

This would make way much more sense as a rack with output for touch screen. It's possibly the stepstone for "iKronos" gadget for win/ios without having to pay for Karma licensing, which is a shame, for it's one of the best features and also messes up backwards compatibility...

For $2699 [ 88 size],
I am not impressed by the computer spec.

If they upped the RAM, processor and SSD size, I would be more convinced.

I have a hard time justifying $2699 for average processing/storage spec

I bet $10, you or I can't get inside Nautilus and swap out the SSD.

This is nothing more than one further of the recent years long Kronos repackaging efforts (from new colours to the Grandstage) by the actual Korg management, without any remarkable overall concept update.

It offers only two slight OS-improvements:
- one slightly updated engine
- a slightly updated sequencer, not really up to date, but with somewhat better overview and editing.

But the lower price comes with some massive downgrades from the Kronos level:
- a sad joke of a completely insufficient controller interface for live play (and even unnerving in the home studio), still with an outdated capacitative display.
That means among others:
- no vector joystick
- no sliders for B3 play
- no alphanumeric field
- even some of the most basic things require touchscreen use with menu diving.
On top of all that:
- no aftertouch
- a poor man's arpeggiator instead of KARMA
That's no workstation any longer, but some stagepiano with more sounds.

Else it seems to be the same 10 year old hardware concept with 2Gb RAM limit, with a bit more than 700Mb streaming headers left for sampling libraries, like in the Kronos. This all seems to indicate, that we are still facing some old (Intel Atom?) CPU with a 32bit OS. As somone wrote, his cheap Chinese 200$ pad offers a much faster and better processor than that.

I begin to ask myself not only, WHEN the actual Korg management has begun to work on a real Kronos successor concept, but rather, IF they have begun doing that at all up to now? Maybe we could wait another 5-10 years for anything worth calling a Kronos successor? In the meantime the world would go on and leave them completely behind.

many folks get upset with my opinion about pricing. I understand all the various rationalizations, etc etc etc.

Montage is definitely over priced.

Kronos 2 MAP is definitely overpriced given its age of processing components.

$2699 MAP for Nautilus 88, given identical [ ? ] processing strength of a Kronos 2 , or a an easily mod'd Kronos 1 [ from 9 yrs ago], Nautilus is also over priced.

Yamaha has price ' figured out ' with its MODX, IMO. $1999 for the 88 size.

I think MODX pricing is reasonable.

I didn't even know they made 60GB SSDs anymore. Not o lot it's troubling, it gets worse when it's called 'huge' somewhere.

I totally get no aftertouch... in an 'essentials' model.
I'm more and more convinced the Kronos is about to be updated with the improvements Nautilus has, and there won't be a new flagship for quite a while more. Which would after all be better than just keep changing the colours.
