My new out of the box Pa4X turns on.
I can click on style mode and hear styles.

I click on SONG mode, nothing there. No SONG list. Blank.
Just a blank screen with HD button or Disk button at bottom of screen.

Do I need to "download" the songs from somewhere?

Thanks, just missing the SONGS.

Just restore factory data.
Go to Media, than from screen Utility tab, next choose Factory restore, and from menu choose SongBook as restored data.

If you are talking about midi or CDG song files, you'll have to add your own.

I tried that, no change.
Pa4X quick guide page 80;

1. Open the SONG SELECT window from the display.
2. Browse through the files to find the song you are looking for.

PROBLEM: There is no list to browse through. It is blank/empty.

The BOOK shows a long list of pre-made songs for use with this arranger.
Yes, you have the option to add midi and mp3 songs of your own, but this Pa4X is supposed to come pre-load with ALMOST 100 read-to-play songs.

This is what I am missing.

I tried the re-boot/restore, SONG MODE is still empty.

I think there is some terminology confusion here.

The Pa4X comes with a pre-loaded Songbook (press the physical Songbook button , not Song Select on screen).

Like DonM said, you need to add your own midi or MP3 files for Song Select.

In the songbook, select a song, and it will not play as it is not a song, but it is a registration or setup for you to play that song using the settings.

If you want to play the song as is, you have to add midi songs on your own, which will play on its own.

So, if i understand this, the online SONG demos by Korg play many songs like a jukebox, complete sets live on the Pa4X, even complete song sets like karaoke,

but, now the "catch" is, to play these 100 listed songs that came with only "the settings" I have to NOW go find 100 midi's to MATCH the internal list of what are not auto-play songs, but really only "a registration" or set up?

I thought the Pa4X was an arranger complete with all these ready to play songs already in it to be arranged, or played along with now, as is.

Thanks for all of the insights, patience, and explanations along the way, helping me with my lack of understanding.

Is there a site to purchase or download the list of midis to match the onboard list of "registrations?" so I can click and play these songs for entertaining?

With kind regrads,
--patrick

Yes you can get midi files just do a Google search.

But I am not sure that you are looking at this the right way. In Songbook find an entry, you then need the sheet music to play that entry.

This might help go to https://korgworld.co.uk/ and download Pete Shaw's 50 and 60s zip. You will get the SB entry but also mp3 for each entry which you can play and listen to.

I must be "thinking" about this the wrong way. I am viewing in my mind as a "jukebox" with all of the SONGS already in there ready to be played at a click of a button.
And, I thought that the Pa4X would act like a super-jukebox, meaning, the Pa4X would play all the instruments and melody of the song, yet, I would now have the power to MUTE and instrument or vocal in that song live.

Meaning, a hit the button "Song: Mustang Sally" the entire song would play with like having the entire band on stage. And, if tonight, I have a singer and a lead guitar player on stage, I could "mute" the vocal tracks and the lead guitar tracks, and my singer and guitar player would join us on stage and play along, replacing the built in Pa4X "band" in the background. Kind of like BAND KAREOKE. I could also join in while the SONG is playing by adding some piano riffs.

I thought an arranger would allow me to arrange songs, and song lists for the night of entertainment.

Is this possible with the Pa4X, can I set it up to do this? it is new out of the box.

From what I can gather, you are looking for a glorified midi player, which you can control by switching on and off channels in real-time. Any computer and a good midi player software will be able to do that.

The PA4X is not a super jukebox; it is a super arranger which can help you produce and tweak styles, sounds, etc., to your liking and not "arrange" songs with instruments turned on and off in real-time, but "arrange" songs by selecting what and how your instruments will sound and what type of percussion, bass lines, drums you can use and "tweak" to your liking.

I bought the Pa4X for composing music for commercial use: tv show backgrounds, movies, and some personal creations for weddings.
For that use, it is spot on. Whatever you hear in your head you can create on this arranger.

I was just hyper-focusing on the karaoke/jukebox idea of helping people to have fun. With the Pa4X, I can use the built in harmonizer with the transposer
and make just about anyone sound great up on stage and end up having a fun night, with "them" being the star.

So, not understanding the "terms" like Song Mode, Song Select, Song Book...I was ignorant of what this arranger could do for fun on the side to help a crowd enjoy a party. I thought it was already loaded, ready to play songs automatically. MANY of the YouTube Korg Demos for SONG Mode make it appear it can do just that out of the box.

What I am learning: it can, but you have to set it all up first.

Love this forum, you all have been so helpful, so quickly!

Pa4X is a powerful Arranger keyboard but like every machine or software there is a learning curve.
You can use it for different applications, for example composing music, live performances, etc...

Sequencer mode:
Quick Record (Backing Sequence), Multitrack and Step Record functions.

SongBook:
Fully programmable music database, based on Styles, MIDI Songs (MID and KAR files), MP3 Songs, with automatic selection of Style Play and Song Play modes.

Hope that helps.

I tried.
I do not know the steps of how to connect my laptop Windows 10 to the Pa4x, I tried using a chord to the back of it, connected to my laptop.

I plugged in the back of the PA the phone looking cord plug, attached to my laptop, downloaded Jerry's, then tried the download of the 50's 60 site.
It did download, then I unzipped it.

How do I get the Korg Pa4X to receive it? I thought it did, but when I tried it in SONGBOOK, it is ALL Styles, No mp3's listed?

I thought it did, but when i tried to play a SONG "Penny Lane" it said :
"I DO NOT HAVE THE RESOURCES TO PLAY THIS."

???

Not to waste your time forever on this, maybe just steer me to a tutorial on how to download Jerry's 50's and 60's where i can download the MP3's that goes with Jerry's download of the 50's and 60's? This what I am missing.
Still can't just paly a song and enjoy playing with it.

I promise to pay forward the patience and help you have given me!
I am a visual learner, so this may be my NEXT calling: Helping the newbies of the Korg Pa4X visual learners!

With kind regards,

Hi Patrick

Don't concern yourself connecting PA4X to PC - use a USB flash drive.
Copy your files onto a USB on your PC and then insert the USB in the PA4X.

Hope you're getting together with this OK

SONG PLAY is for playing MIDI files and MP3 files
SONGBOOK would be better called "Registrations" - these are to instantly load your PA4X ready to play anything whether STYLE, MIDI, MP3 etc - creating a SONGBOOK entry records ALL the keyboard settings.

Do you have 61 or 76 note PA4X?

Cheers

Pete Very Happy
