|

I have a Korg Kronos 61 that I have used live for a couple of years, I bought it new. It intermittently shuts down (often mid song) giving me an error message saying I need to turn off the instrument and let it sit for 10 seconds before turning it back on. Is there an easy fix for this or am I going to have to have it serviced? I really like the Kronos but this is very frustrating and I have taken it out of use live until I can get this fixed. Thanks in advance for any help. |

That sounds a lot like what was happening with my second K2, which I was using for practices and gigs. It got overheated at one practice - it wasn’t a particularly hot day, but it was in direct sunlight for part of the afternoon and suddenly shut down inexplicably.
The first couple of times I tried to restart, it wouldn’t. After about the third or fourth attempt, it initialized and I was able to play again. It shut down mid-song again a short time later, and we called it a day.
Once I got it back to the house, I set it up and let it run for 24 hours. It stayed up fine. A couple of days later my bass player and I were practicing in the evening inside my house, and it cut out again mid song and took a couple of attempts to restart it.
It did this again intermittently several times, no rhyme or reason why the K2 would shut down when it did… sometimes it would do it shortly after it was started, sometimes I would leave it up for several days straight and then it would shut down out of the blue.
I bought a replacement power supply and installed it, and have not had any issues since. I can only surmise that something in the PS got overheated - I examined it closely and there were no visible issues of damage, no bulging caps, no signs of heated traces, etc.
I flipped my K2s, and now my original is my road board and my second K2 stays home. |
