When the dampers are lifted on a piano, the felt lightly excites all of the strings, producing an indistinct sound somewhat like breathing. The sound is very quiet but audible in a close-miked recording with wide dynamic range. The damper pedal with the Kronos does not duplicate this effect, at least not with the Berlin Grand -- but only diminishes the loudness of the sounding notes. The "breathing" sound would be easy to synthesize, as it is the same regardless of which notes are sounding. Somewhat more difficult: pushing the pedal of a piano partway down with notes sounding, which produces a rushing, slightly buzzy sound different for each sounding note and alters the timbre of the note if the pedal is again lifted. .

Damper noise works on mine in SGX-2 mode for Berlin piano programs, so it should on your unit as well. Same with the soft or una corda, it works as well just fine on my K2. Seems like you are mixing them up or maybe you swapped both pedals vs their respective inputs.

Oh, OK, Mine is in SGX-1 mode. I'll try SGX-2. I am new to the Kronos! The piano sounds great.

My (secondhand but new to me) Kronos has SGX 1 showing for the German Grand. Evidently, SGX 2 is an upgrade. Is it available for an older Kronos?

Indeed you probably have an old version of the firmware and software. When you start your unit, you can see the currently installed version on the screen during bootup. I would recommend to go on the Korg page for the Kronos and upgrade your unit to the latest drivers. Once the Korg page below is fully loaded (takes a little while), download and install the following :

Under software :

- Kronos sub-system firmware (to update your unit)
- Kronos system updater (to update your unit)

- Kronos editor plug-in (to edit its programs/combis from your computer) OPTIONAL

Under drivers :

- Kronos USB MIDI driver (to connect your Kronos on a computer) OPTIONAL but needed if you install the editor plug-in above
