I want to record some audio tracks from my Pa4X through the USB Type B (rear) to my iPad (Garage Band).

So I was wondering if this is possible. Has anyone tried?
If this is possible , what kind of cables do we need for the connection?

Thanks

Depends upon your iPad.

Assuming it has a Lightning connector then a Camera Adaptor is the part you need.

Buy the more expensive genuine Apple one which has a USB and a Lightning sockets that way you can power the iPad.

For an iPad Pro a USB C to A adaptor is what you need.

The Pa4x USB ports do not support audio data, only MIDI over USB for the USB-B port, and data storage for the USB-A ports. Therefore an A/D audio interface will be required. Possibly something like the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, connected to the Pa4x's Line outs.

@Biggles,
Thanks for your reply.
By the way I have iPad Air.

@voip,
Thanks for the clarification.

I had a doubt about that but you clarified it, thanks.
I have already my home studio with all necessary equipment for recording Audio/Midi but I just wanted to try
to multi track audio recording into my iPad Air when I am out, far from my home studio.

Thanks anyway

There’s a good case to be made for something like a little Zoom H4 pocket recorder or the like. Although the iPad as recorder sounds like a good idea, a) as has been pointed out, it needs an interface and cables etc. and b) you’ll need to power it if you want to simply turn on record at the start of the gig and just let it run all gig long (I find doing that lets me concentrate on the show, not starting and stopping the recorder all the time).

Not to mention, you might want to use the iPad for something else like social media posts or whatever you normally use it for on the gig…

Little pocket recorders sound great, are self-contained, run for days off of batteries (I use rechargeables) and make recording yourself so easy you can completely forget you are doing it, which is the best way to be relaxed while recording!

As the 4X does not have audio over USB you could buy and connect up a MIDI interface unit that also has audio input, the USB output from ythe device may well have audio over USB but the specific device will need checking.
