I've managed to create some combis with scenes in my Nautilus, which was quite a learning curve for me. What I don't really understand is the differences and practical use of the 01G midi channel, the Gch and chanels 02 - 16. I can't find a clear explanation in the manual or on the internet. Can any one explain when to use 01G, Gch or the other 15 chanels? Thank you in advance for your help. _________________ Musical greetz,

The midi channels are part of the multi-timbral ability of the instrument. When we use several timbres, they can be separated on different channels that the scores do not mix with each other.
When we play with the keyboard we use the GLOBAL channel, that is set on midi Ch 1 by default. (Please check the GLOBAL Midi Page )
In Combi we have more sounds that are play in the same time (arp , guitars, bass, drums...). Each timbre are set on different Chanel. If the bass and drums were on the same channel, you would hear an inappropriate mix of bass notes and nonsensical drum elements sung by the bass score but with drum sounds.
So in Combi any timbre you need to play by hands must be on GCh or 01G in our situation. The difference between 01G and Gch is that when you change the global channel from 1 to other Chanel, timbre that are set on 01G will stop playing. The timbre on Gch will continue to play even you change the Global MIDI Chanel.
Ch 2 to 16 are free to use for different situation. If want to play some timbre using external MIDI Keyboards. For example in your Combi have the Piano layered with strings on Gch (01G) and Organ on Ch2. If your External MIDI Keyboards transmit on Ch 2 the Organ will sound hen play on MIDI keyboards and Piano & Strings will sound when play on Nautilus.
So in conclusion you have 16 channels to transmit and receive from and to any midi device (External SEQ, Drum Machine, MIDI Keyboards Controller, DAW, Synth Modules, Other Synthesisers and controllers). _________________ http://www.danstesco.ro |

Thanks a lot for the explanation! This makes things much clearer to me. Especially the difference between 01G and Gch. _________________ Musical greetz,
