I have the Kronos set up with a combi that points to the Fantom. Each track is set to ext on that midi channel, e.g. 1, 2, 3, etc.

When I move the sliders, the volume on the Fantom zone updates accordingly. This works for all 16 channels, with the exception of 5 and 6.

I've double checked the combi and they're set up just like the other channels.

I also set the front panel to ext and recorded midi in Cubase. All 16 sliders, including 5 and 6, transmit CC 78 in that scenario, so it would seem that the sliders are functioning.

I thought it might be something I did on the Fantom, but I first had a Fantom-06 this week, and I've now replaced that with a Fantom 6. It behaves the same in both cases, so that would seem to point to the Kronos.

I suppose there could be some kind of failure in the Kronos on 5 and 6 that keeps it from transmitting CC7, but that seems odd since they transmit to Cubase. Also, it's usually more likely that I've screwed something up myself than having a hardware issue.

At this point I'm out of ideas on how to debug this. Anyone have any thoughts?

Is the Kronos connected to Cubase exactly the same as the Fantom (ie USB or MIDI)? If so then you have already proved that Kronos is transmitting correctly so the issue must be in the Fantom - Unless you are using a MIDI splitter/merge box, in which case I would take it out of the loop temporarily.

Hey, Clive.

Good catch. I talk to Cubase via USB but the Fantom via 5 pin, and I do have a midi merger in the middle.

I plugged a cable from the back of the Kronos to the Fantom and still had the same problem. However, I forgot to test going 5 pin to Cubase to see if that was any different. Will do that tomorrow.

Appreciate the help!

Hey, Clive.

I followed up and tested Cubase from 5 pin and there were no problems.

However, as I poked around in the combi, I noticed that in two of the midi filter tabs, the entire columns for channesl 5 and 6 were unchecked. I checked them, and the Fantom responded on those channels like every other.

I don't know how those got unchecked as I rarely fool with the midi filters. Most likely I copied a combi that was provided with the Kronos and filed the serial numbers off to use for another scenario.

As suspected, the problem ended up being cockpit error, which comes as a surprise to no one.

Thanks for the help, man!
