Sorry for this newbie-question: but what exactly is that good for? What is it usually used for?

yep - that was on my OS2 wishlist a few months ago and I'd definitely buy this as an EXf if not available with new OS.

Personally I've always rather envied the arranger folks for the vocal harmonizer they have in the PA800/1x. That would get a big yes vote from me, but the Autotune doesn't get my yes vote.

When I was evaluating Autotune'esque plug-ins, I tried Autotune, Waves Tune and Melodyne Uno/Plugin. In the end I went for Melodyne, it really is very impressive and it's applications go beyond just pitch/timing correction. I digress, the point is that all those mechanisms use a piano roll or other graphic as an important part of their interface when not operating in automatic tuning mode. Korg's devs don't feel comfortable with implementing piano roll or other similar graphic elements on their touch screens, so the plug-in would have only a very basic UI or only provide automatic tuning mode. That wouldn't be particularly desirable plug-in in my book, except for the most basic uses. Useful, but kinda limited. Maybe you guys had something different in mind ?

Here are the pluggies I checked out :

Waves Tune : http://www.waves.com/Content.aspx?id=182
Celemony Melodyne Plugin : http://www.celemony.com/cms/index.php?id=products_plugin
Celemony Melodyne Uno : http://www.celemony.com/cms/index.php?id=products_uno
Antares Auto-Tune : http://www.antarestech.com/products/auto-tune5.shtml

2c,

Daz.

I use Waves Tune. A Light version comes with most of their bundles now. I ended up using Waves for everything as you only then need to pay one maintenance fee a year and you are always up to date. I have the Mercury and SSL bundles, sure it was a big expense at the start but it comes with all the things i need including Tune, GTR etc. So I don't need keep buying lots of different up grades like used to have to with Auto-tune, Native Instruments (Guitar Rig) etc.

To really use Auto-tune you need to use the graphic model. But I think you may find RC-Ai may just want to use the basic pick a key and hope for the best model which Auto-tune was famous for.

I agree with what Daz said about interface, etc.

But I think pitch correction by itself could be useful at times. A harmonizer (if its a good one) would be a nice toy to have in the kit, especially one that allows you to harmonize with fully programmable voices and vocal effects. And extra-specially if its one that allows major 11ths, 13ths, minor 2nds, sus, apogiaturas, and other dissonant phrasing.

Additionally, the autotune would have to be able to "sing" on key with the combis I make using vocal sounds, which I would think would be a "normal" feature.

However, (and I don't know much about the various autotune products) I would like to be able to defeat autotune instantaneously whenever I want since there are moments when a grace note or gliss, or being slightly off pitch, is a useful effect in a vocal.

It's funny that people are voting "no". Though auto-tune or pitch correction is not at the top of my wish list, I wouldn't be unhappy if Korg decided to add the feature Wink

Even if they spent time developing that rather than something you wanted more ? I think that is the point of the No vote.

I agree too. Even though I use the Audio Sequencer option for our live shows I still sequence and record in Pro Tools and then transfer 16 mixed grouped tracks over to the Oasys for the live shows.

I read the question literally Smile Now if the poll was, "Would you like Korg to focus their Oasys development efforts on an Auto-Tune effect?" I'd say "hell no" because there are many other things I'd rather they be working on.
