|
|
Hi everyone,
I have an Extreme, but I'm assuming this goes for all Tritons.
Has anyone had decent results plugging a dynamic microphone straight into one of the inputs and sampling the signal? I have to switch to the "mic" setting, and then crank the gain all the way up to be able to hear what I am recording-- and then of course it's mostly hiss from the preamp itself.
I'm not expecting anything amazing here, only looking for a quick scratch pad. But it's like... unusable. Today I just gave in and ordered one of those ART preamps rather than trying to plug straight. Anyone else with experience here?
Thanks,
Jake |

I've sampled into my LE with a mic. just like you tried. no problems here. Had to play with the global settings for input signal strength.........but that's it. _________________ http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=677304

Candlewick,
Thanks for the reply. Can I ask what kind of mic you were using (or have used)? I'm been trying an Audio-Technica "Artist Series" or something, it's basically an SM58 clone.
I would love to hear from anyone else who has experience as well, especially with an Extreme.
Thanks,

Hi.
I use a Sennheiser Evolution series dynamic microphone to record into my Triton Extreme. No problems here either.

How does the recording sound with the Sennheiser mic? Loud and reasonably full?
Now I'm thinking (and hoping) that it's the mic that's causing the problem, it's an ATM41a. Could it be some kind of impedance issue? I'll try a few other things and report back... |

The sennheiser mics are very good for recording with, even though the frequency range isn't quite as high as the SM58 (15khz (I think)). They produce a reasonably full sound, but maybe not quite as loud as what you're after.
Anyway, like candlewick I had to adjust the volume level as well (about 1/2 way though).
The noise level is acceptable when recording from this mic (mainly ambient noise from the room) and I've never encountered any noise from the pre-amps either.
Like you said, it might be an impedence issue, but then again I'm not sure - I haven't used Audio-Technica mics before...
Hope this helps _________________ "A mind is a terrible thing to waste." - Whoopi Goldberg, House Party II (1991)
