Hi, I've been trying to transfer some programs from my X3 to my new M3. There are some really great sounds on the X3 but I don't want to have to lug both boards around for gigs if I can avoid it.

The X3 seems to be using a disk format that is not compatible with the M3.
Using my computer, I transfered the files from diskette to a USB drive. Unfortunately the M3 says it cannot open the file. If I use a USB floppy drive, it doesn't recognize the x3'S diskette at all, nor does the X3 recognize a diskette formatted on my computer or M3.

I'm wondering if I need some kind of converter, or if there is another way to transfer the files. If anyone has any ideas let me know.

Cheers

They are two different devices. You'll have to manually try to program the sounds yourself.

Hmm, thats what I was afraid of. Guess I'll just have to use a MIDI cable and keep both boards on stage.

I'm not sure how I would approach programming a new sound in the M3. I'd like to take one of the organ sounds and then make it more growly like the "Growl Organ" on my X3. Its almost like a rock organ with a sawtooth oscillator (is that the right term?) Can the M3 modify a waveform in that way, kind of like how a synthesizer does it? I'll keep playing with it and post if I find anything interesting.

Also, does anyone know if the after-touch on the M3 is assignable? I'd like to use the aftertouch to control the organ tremelo effect instead of the joystick. The manual didn't really specify whether or not this control is assignable, so I'm guessing not.

Cheers

And there is a chance that M3, believe it or not, wont have some preset multisamples same as X3 or wont have them at all.

If your sounds on X3 are consisted of such multisamples, sample them (but just them, not all program structure around them) to M3 and program them in M3 - now the results will be the same or better, probably better.

Take one initialized sound on X3, assign desired multisample and sample it in M3, every third tone for example, map them, loop and save in M3's RAM, and after programing, you'll have your sounds.

That's the best way to do it, IMO, that way i have sounds from N364 translated to Extreme.

Regards,
shrike

Yes.

You have to compare parameters from X3 to those of M3 and adjust them to do same things.

Even better, if you fully understood X3 editing, then read M3's guides and you'll see what is what.

but it's very long to do I've done approx. 100 programs from triton to m3 since september (some with int multisamples and others with multisamples resampled from original triton) Very Happy

I hope a owner of the site can help you and put it in the download section.

Trying to transfer sounds from an X3 to the M3 is like trying to play a cassette tape in a DVD player. It wont work. Use the Sampler.

ok.. but as the engine basics and a lot of samples are "similar" (please understand what I mean with "similar".. Wink ), you can obtain similar sounds, maybe with a similar character but more fascinating.. a sort of remastered X3 sounds..

How big are the files...is it only pcg files or is it samples too?

well anyway you could upload them to rapidshare (google it) and let the users download therefrom....
Thanks in advance for sharing these sounds *bow*
