Why not the Cell chip from Sony that used in the PS3? To calculate authentic sound syntheses we need a lot of floating point power and busbandwith and this can bring the Cell chip. His theoretical achievement are 256 Gflops with an internal coach speed from up to 204.8Gbyte/s.

In the Ps3 game Lair the water physics are calculated with the Cell in real-time:

The Cell chip was sold in the PS3 now quite a million times their production might not be so expensive any more like at the beginning. I would extend this architecture with 32 MByte Embedded Ram to accelerate processes . One has done this with the Xbox360 GPU (10 mb) with it the graphic effects do not overload the external bussystem ,his internal bus is 4096 bit broadly with a speed of 256 Gbyte/s.

And thus should be the future of VA Synth's/Workstations. Multi processors chips they allow parallel applications with integrated memory for quick access times.

Maybe a joint venture between Sony and Korg??

The only problem with the Cell processor is that it's hard to program because your code need to scale well on all those cores.

I agree that Cell would be a nice processor to power a Korg OASYS2. Maybe we could achieve patch hold when switching combis ? Smile
