Beautiful song here Stephen. Seems as if there's a bit too much resonance on the lower bass level, I had to turn down the volume as it began to hum too loud in my ears. The guitar sounds excellent. What is with the sad songs? My new one had me actually depressed last week. I really like the part that's like a bass solo. REally changes it up. The drums are very clear after that when they kick in. Wow, that's a good song. I will definately check off your name. This probably warrants just a tweak or two in the mastering, but the instruments are spot on to my ears. _________________ George Nelson is 2loose

Love the chord changes and the melody. The guitar sound is perfect for this arrangement. There is something about the bass that makes it resonate maybe more than it could...but an EQ tweak in my opinion would hurt the sound. So maybe just a hair down on volume.
The ONLY other thing I can think of is that the drums sound a tad thin. I like the effect this gives, but a beefier kick would offset some of what the bass is doing and might actually help if you had to give the bass an EQ shift.
Maybe George is right in that all this could be accomplished in a mastering tweak.
So...can "I" borrow you to do a solo or two on one of my songs....gee you play really well! "Stay" could have really used your guitar finesse.

WoW.. Stephen..
I found the song very approachable by anyone wanting a softer sad sound...It is really good in my opinion...Loved it..even more after a few listens..
You might check these...(Some already mentioned most)...re-master or reduce the low range of the guitar...It is just great after 1:00...Bass good but I looked for a bit more balance..a bit heavy in a spot or two.....but on the drums...the level suffered a little, maybe lack of definition (on the first part only)......seemed it needed something (louder as said by Jon?)
It is a great offering as is, but you can bring it from very good to spot-on with a little time and touch-ups...
Great Tune too!! Really excellent in the balances except as mentioned already...
My Regards!! John ellll |

I didn't expect to get so many responses so quickly.
George, I ran a Spectrum analysis, and there are some issues in the 90 and 250 hz areas, I'll see if I can EQ those in Soundforge, or maybe just remix it later.
Thanks.
Jon, the drums are a loop I found that I had planned to replace actually, but decided I liked it. I'm not so sure I can EQ the kick without adversely affecting the snare, but it's probably worth a try, or I could go with my original plan and try EZ Drummer.
I'd love to play guitar on one of your tunes, it would be an honor!
Thanks.
Hi Lorenzo, I did have a head start on this one, the next 11, will be a bit more of a challenge most likely.
John, I appreciate that a lot, I'm glad you think it's great, that made me smile.
Thanks for the tips guys, just what I was hoping for.

Stephen.
Very Nice ! Lovely stuff
I attach to music that touches me in some ways, be it the mood or the arrangement.
This song reminded me of the song "Night Calls" with Joe Cocker.
I agree taht if drums and the bass was tweaked it would bring more to this beautiful song.

That mix is much better, I've got it blasting in my ears right now and it's still a bit heavy on the low but only at very high volume. I think it's perfect. There's a certain sparkle that wasn't there the first time also. I like it this way. Good job. _________________ George Nelson is 2loose

Very nice Stephen. The guitar has the perfect feel. I would not big on that string sounds or the synth sound but they highlight the soulful sound of the guitar. This song makes me want to play guitar. I sold my electric over 20 years ago and suddenly I am missing it.
You really are making us late comers look bad. Super as usual. Thanks! _________________ “I’m into scales right now.”

Agh - there's that sweet JSF signature sound Man I wish I could play like that! So he shows up late for OSAM and posts early ! Way to go man!!!
I guess I am listening to the remixed version - yea - I think the kick drum still needs some pumping up. There is no preponderance of bottom end at all. Hold on - lemme listen again. Man those drums are really crisp in the beginning. I really like the strings sound in the beginning - what are they?
I didn't think the tune was sad in the beginning, but by the end it had a certain mellowness to it.
Nice Stephen - nice _________________ Care for a jelly baby?

I can hardly say what I feel now...it is really smoooooth to me...has a laconic edge with a kind of.."maybe it will get more better tomorrow".. sound...
I sinply cannot say about the mix or levels at this point..I tried, but I am not sure it needs ANYTHING....I realize some who understand much better than me are a better answer for these things....I just like it!!!

Just beautiful Stephen! I think it sounds just about perfect as it is now. You know I'm not much of a 'techie' so can't make useful suggestions as to EQ or mixing or whatever....but I loved the smooth sound and the guitar playing. Sorry to hear that your wife has been sick, hope she's better now.

What a lovely laid back groove, I really like the your lead work.
The organ lead made a nice contrast too.
It's a track that put's me in a good mood. _________________ Chordial |
