since I want OSAM 2008 music be totally mine and not from my band, and since I'm already composing and arranging parts for the album we are recording with the band, I'm in a terrible problem here... THE TOTAL LACK OF INSPIRATION!!! and when I find a single pattern I can record to start the new piece I open digital performer record it via midi and audio and I simply discover I don't like it anymore... well it's still not the end of February but I'll have a lot to do to be in time with this song...

I have had to stop on my music until Thursday because of a little concert I ended up playing in Wednesday night. I should be ready before the end of the month. If you are wise you will release your music after I do mine. Your music will look inspirational and brillant compared to my merger attempt. Fear not!
The OSAM family is like one big Sicilian family. OSAM considers your word like a binding contract. On Febuary 29, we settle all of the families business accounts. George has hired a " Diego Corleone" to give you the inspiration you need. We have asked him to do his work on your kneecaps and leave your fingers alone. You will need your fingers for the March deadline.
Inspiration comes in many forms! _________________ “I’m into scales right now.”

Two random thoughts ...
1) After recording the "pattern" into DP, forget whether you like it or not, just start jamming new parts over the top of it and record those. Then remove the original "pattern" and create a new pattern underneath the new parts you just created. Make sense ?
2) Take the chord sequence from a song you're working on with your band and change a couple of the chords from straight major/minor over to sus4 or sus7, play it at a different tempo

Excellent suggestions Daz. Also, from the earlier comments it seems I may need to get out my cement shoes for you if you don't produce something fabulous. Seriously, if any time you think you will not make a deadline I say post what you have and get some comments. At least I can check your name off. If you submit nothing, then nothing will be gained. What if you don't like it, but we all think it's strangely interesting? _________________ George Nelson is 2loose

Verylittle I could add...
I do use a recorder when away from home...just pick up anything when just walking around..even crowd noise...It reminds me of the songs and tunes I was hearing...

jazlover you have me laughing hard bro! Good one!
Lorenzo...there is the topic for your first piece- Staying Alive! ha ha
I am with Daz AND don't throw away anything! Every idea is a good one. There are no wrong answers, only wrong questions.
Like George said, we may find your reject to be something fantastic. Or maybe not. Either way, the feedback from this group will get the ball rolling for sure.

thanx for the support... I've already talk about all of this with Diego... he knows my address too...
anyway, today is the 12th of February I still have more than 15 days to create something, I'm quite free in these days so probably I'll start working on something after a few days of relax. I need some of them.

YES LORENZO; BRITNEY SPEARS IS ON THE WAY IF YOU DON'T COMPLETE YOUR TASK
I'm talking with him in these minutes, I decided that starting from tomorrow I'll bring with me in the office my iBook and I'll work on my tunes on the lunch-break, too.
I want to create something cool which can let me try new software, new solutions, and make me learn something; I hope I can concretize what I've got in mind.

I tend to find, that for me, song ideas always come when I am *not* trying to write a song
So try *not* writing a song !
Just one example, that often happens to me; start designing a new bass sound on your favourite synth, as your brain and right hand are doing sound design, your left hand is noodling playing something to exercise this new sound. Often in that situation I find my left hand (almost on it's own!) has come up with a great bass riff.

another idea I use, is to listen to some style of music that you love but is not the style you're writing in, sometimes I get inspired listening to progressive rock when i'm attempting to write punk, or jazz when I'm doing funk. sometimes just hearing a great classic song will get the heart pumping again. _________________ George Nelson is 2loose

It can be rough when you try to force an idea. However, there is nothing wrong with roughing it...even coming up with something overdone and cliched. In fact, some of my best ideas have come on the tail of severe mediocrity.
So, no worries. As I have said long before it was a saying, "it's all good".

I've admitted this before but it relates here. I have actually taken a song that I was blown away by and tried to imitate it, do my own version of it. But like Stephen said elsewhere, once I put my own stamp over it I find it's so different from the original version. Of course if you're really good at doing covers you may want to avoid this. But some of my favs of my own stuff came from a song that was popular at the time and I reworked it into my own thing. You would not even recognize it now to hear it. _________________ George Nelson is 2loose

I am reminded,
My attempts to figure out Rombo's "Swept Away"...I never could dup. it AT ALL..(I mean sim song with sim. feel..I could play the song pretty good...I just don't seem to be in the same mold..somehow...)
Some things are as always...great ideas are that..and it doesn't mean I will be able. Ever...Perhaps there is evidence of more exposure bringing better results, however...I can hope..

Yes - when I get stone cold - I just record stuff - all ideas - just plant a bunch of seeds and one of them is bound to sprout - the question is when.
The other thing is that - for me - my tunes always take different directs - so I gave up trying to force them in the direction I want to go.
BTW - If I recall, your first song in OSAM one was like one note or something .... I think you might be able to beat that!
... and remember .. there is always Britney <insert> ! _________________ Care for a jelly baby?

HA HA! When I first read that, I read "when I get stoned, I just record stuff". I was swept back to my "pre-children" days for about a split second!!! I would never condone drugs as an excuse to write music...but if you say, had surgery, or something like that, and had to be on some medication it might not be a bad time to press the record button.
Heck, a good dose of Benedryl for allergies can cause all sorts of left field things to come out of your brain.
But of course we are above all of that nonsense. _________________ Jon Solo
