|
|
I checked both the Korg & Sibelius websites but can't find any drivers to let Sibelius know the X50 is plugged in. The program only shows a usb device is there.
Anyone here us Sibelius and know how to get the program to see the X50?
I've plugged the X50 into the computer with a usb cable. My computer doesn't have any midi inputs. This is my first time trying to 'do' music stuff on the computer so please bear with my ignorance.

have you installed the korg midi driver?
you then have to open KORG USB DRIVER TOOLS in the start menu
and go INSTALL KORG USB-MIDI DEVICE every time you connect your X50
if it doesn't work (i had some trouble getting the editor to see my micro-x)
goto UNINSTALL KORG USB-MIDI DEVICE select your X50 from the list (mine had it there, but said it was corrupted)
remove it, and then try install it again.
when everything is working
it should just come up as a midi port in all music programs _________________ Harpy.com.au |

I did that and Sibelius sees the Korg where before it saw a USB driver but my problem now is there's no sound set listing for the X50. The Sibelius site doesn't have any X50 sound list for v4 of the program and there's nothing on the Korg site. The X50 doesn't appear in the softwares pull down sound menu but the triton and a few other Korg keyboards do show up.
I tried selecting the various Korg synths in the menu as well as general midi but there's no sound when hitting the test (sound) button. All this computer/midi stuff is brand new to me. |

well, for instant gratification, you could just use general midi for now...
i think you'd have to chuck it in multi mode, and set all the parts to use patches from "G" bank
may need to change [global] [pref] Bank Map to "GM" and not korg
then normal general midi program changes from sib should work.
but GM sounds are sucky.
setting it up as a triton in Sib should allow you to do the bank and program changes correctly.
all the patch names in sibelius would be wrong
but if you ignore them, and look on the X50 itself to find the locations of the sounds you want... you should be sweet
*note i dont have sibelius or an X50... just suggesting ideas of things to try. _________________ Harpy.com.au |

general midi doesn't make any sound. You should also realize, that when I say i'm brand new at this stuff, I mean I am brand new to this sorta stuff.
i understood your first sentence...
I put my headphones on when I first plugged the keybd in and turned on Sibelius thinking i'd hear something...
After that, I'm pretty lost. |

Would the X50 editor being on help get some X50 sounds to play in Sibelius or perhaps there's some way I can download/extract the sounds from the X50 and save as a sound catalog file the program can use?
I thought this midi stuff meant these things talk to each other? |

i dont have sibelius (or my micro-x right now), so you're going to have to figure some of it out for yourself.

Thanks 4NDRW, I've no problem getting the synth & comp to see each other, it's just a problem with Sibelius not 'knowing' the synth is an X50 or the sounds it makes during playback of the generated sheet music. I've long since given up. |
